Okay the whole 1:7 twist rate; if you're not using tracers there is no point in having a 1:7 twist. BuT ItS MiLsPeC, sO iTs ThE bEsT. No, the reason the US Military went with, and still uses, 1:7 is because the 5.56 tracer round does not stabilize at 1:8 or 1:9. Because the military wants to shoot tracers through the M4/M16/Mk18 they have to compromise on the twist rate.
