Proper cleaning and maintenance is a critical part of owning any firearm. Chris Fry with Modern Defensive Training Systems demonstrates how to strip, clean and reassemble the AR-15 modern sporting rifle. Fry also points out a few parts that can wear and may occasionally need to be replaced. #AR15 #ModernSportingRifle #LetsGoShooting #MSR #NSSF

How often do you need to change parts like gas rings? I saw somewhere they said 3000-5000 rds
How do you even change the parts?
This is a great video. By any chance is a transcript obtainable ( I am almost deaf). If there is, it would help me greatly.
Chris , you mentioned the gas rings. You did not mention that the rings should be at least 120 degrees seated on each of the rings from each other. Have found out that if the split on the rings are lined up together that you may have a failure to extract or feed.
Degreaser should only be used if it is completely removed prior to lubricating your rifle. For this reason, isopropyl alcohol or Alconox (compressed air helps here too) work well as a rinse agent.
A word on metal instruments: Never use an instrument that is harder than the material being cleaned. That SS dental pick may not scratch CrMo barrels but the Aluminum and coatings that protect against corrosion will suffer greatly. Solvents, patience and wood-handled cotton swabs are key.
Adding in close-up shots of the tools and parts would greatly improve this video.
1. Clear the weapon and check the chamber.
Just wanted to say, thank you for such a great detailed video.
Froglube makes a solvent now too and they market it as the best to prepare your firearm for the clp treatment
Chris, what degreaser spray do you use? I have changed to Froglube and would really like to have a compatible substance.
The Nssf..we can't see nothing? Have you check your video. Thanks! (need LIGHT!) Thanks again!
once a year
Do you ever worry about the degreasing spray getting into the gas tube?
does the bolt not need lube?
Thanks mate.
Damn…That's funny!
Best cleaning video out there!
@Smash3x It does such you all can't own guns move to America
I genuinally hate living in the UK.
Thats very good advice, lots of people never think about it, they think a new gun is ready for the the field..
This is why I run a piston setup…so much cleaner, low maintanence, and reliable.
I understand the point he is making by checking the chamber two or three or four times but… If you can't trust yourself after checking it once I don't feel the weapon should even be in your hands.
I totally agree with davidwsayer…poor lighting against a BLACK shirt …plan better the next time!
Great video. More lighting would have been helpful, but it was nicely done overall.
Don't get me wrong, I love shooting AK's…they're an incredible weapon and have their place on the field and at the range…but for plinking @ 300+ yards, I'll stick with my AR.
I'm completely unbiased. The only AK that I've seen that shot anywhere close to the groupings of a similar AR was one with a match barrel. A standard AK just doesn't cut it compared to most mil-spec AR's when it comes to grouping @ 100+ yards. Sure, it can take out a target, but the groupings aren't going to be as tight. That's all I was saying.
Formula for accurate Ak:
A.) Buy the equivalent of your AR. For some reason, people act suprised when a Wasr doesnt touch their colt in accuracy.
B.) Have an unbiased view going into the shoot.
It wont pick the tick off an elephants ass at 1000 yards (I'm assuming that's what you use an AR for.), but you'll get a man-sized target at 250 without optics.
A wise man once said, AR's are more reliable and AK's are more accurate than people let on to.
Nice vid! Informative. I'd agree with other viewers though that a black shirt wasn't the best choice for an instructional vid on the AR platform.
You buy an AK to just throw lead down the range. You buy an AR if you want accuracy.
