It wasn't an AR-15 it was a Ruger .556 mm (.22 cal.) semi-auto rifle. Damn good thing he wasn't using a deer hunting rifle. He would have killed more people.
Banning the AR-15 is too extreme. Australian gun stores have AR-15s on display with a price tag. However, they can only be purchased by a person with a valid reason to own a semi-automatic rifle.
Next to alcohol, guns are right-wing Americans' favorite drug of choice. Something is very wrong with a system in which buying and owning an unlimited number of deadly firearms by practically anyone is perfectly easy and legal while buying, selling, or owning a few ounces of pot can get you in trouble in most states.
But, let's not be fooled by the avowed motives of the right-wing leadership in defending the MISINTERPRETATION of the Second Amendment. Their true motives are enabling their most important donors, the firearm manufacturing industry, and arming their supporters for a new civil war when they can't gain or hold power anymore through the legal election process.
