  1. Eh. Primary Arms basically does the same thing, albeit with a little more weight. But you get more eye relief with that weight. Having an acog basically makes having an adjustable stock pointless because you always end up keeping the stock compressed due to the total lack of eye relief. Glass clarity really isn't that different. Not enough to warrant the 900 dollar price difference. Both have ACSS reticles. The tritium in the ACOG is a nice feature. But a tritium replacement can cost 150 bucks. I heard it was higher, but I am giving the benefit of the doubt. Say you replace it every 16 years. Even 20 years. I might go through a battery every 2 to 3 years. The average cost of a replacement battery is 1 dollar to 2 dollars. That means I might spend 10 to 20 bucks in 20 years for batteries vs 150 bucks for a single tritium replacement. Besides, if a battery dies, the reticle is still etched. So the feature is not very consequential. About the only advantage that I give to the ACOG is the light weight. It is shockingly light for what it does. But if you want a do all optic, the ACOG is the expensive option, not the only option. The only reason I see for anyone to drop that much on an ACOG is if you are making a true military rifle clone. That, or you just really like the way it looks. That being said, I did qualify with an ACOG when I was active duty. It is a good piece of kit. But it's only that expensive because it has bragging rights of being used by the U.S. military. In the age of LVPO's and reliable 300 dollar optics, Trijicon is becoming a bit of a stretch.

  2. I just put the EOTech Vudu 1-8×24 on my "battle ready" AR. I love it! I'm not a big fan of fixed magnification. I have the same issue using the 3x magnifier w/ my EOTech holo sight. The Vudu fills in the holes nicely. As a side note, if you're planning on betting your life on a rifle, then $1,300 for a quality optic is a no-brainer.

  3. Hilarious I bought a 560$ RMR for my FN .45 tactical and now I'm trying to cheap out on buying a AR15 optic! Fekkkkk. Imagine a primary arms 3x with a trijicon RMR. I'm a clown in a man's shoes LOL!

  4. Did you know you can use the red dot on top as a canted sight? If you cant the gun like you do with a canted red dot, the red dot on top of the scope will be right in front of your left eye, and it took me no time at all to adjust to it when I learned that.

  5. I have that same set-up and couldn't agree with you more. I use my gun for coyotes and feral hogs. The clear glass gives me a great optic and running targets under 100 yards you just pop up to the RMR. Personally I like my EoTechs better than the RMR but this is one fantastic set-up!

  6. Do you need the instruction manual for BINDON I will send you a copy of my scopes. you are not letting your eye brain programming go. practice both eyes open with distance and close shooting distance. your eye will transition to magnified to non is perfect. IT is the master of all optics. period.!

  7. I was into acogs before they had been in the public eye. this one cost me 1500 dollars in 2005 the 4×32 TA031F

Same gun and acog still shooting last year . tritium is as bright a s the day i bought it .

  8. I don't run a red dot. I have researched shooting it "occulated" with the front cover closed for close quarters which will act like a red dot with of course both eyes open lol what are your thoughts?

  9. I ordered one from my local AAFES Military store and I got a great deal, but I ended up sending it back cause I just couldn't deal with the lackluster eye relief. That's my only gripe and I may get the larger version in the future, as it's supposed to have almost double the eye relief.

  10. I hate to keep bugging you on this but you are the only one who seems to know things. Because I have 2 ar's and one has an acog I have this type 2 coming for the ascog. Can you / would you mount a type 2 straight on a 1913 pick system?

  11. Hey Country Mash howw ya doing? Hey I am just wondering how this mounts to the ta31 acss with the green horse shoe. i can on see 2 possible screw mounts that just does not seem right. like the rmr only attaches at the back to the back of the acog leaving the front unattached. Or am I looking at the wrong dot for my gun?

  12. I have a Leupold VXF 1.5-4 and holosun 407 which do the same and cost about 450$ and weights in same too the lpvo is going to be opt out for a 1-8. The hard part of the 4x is not shooting and hitting but target ID. I was not interested in upgraded mag of my lpvo , but with deeper education of the real world situation I realized simplly Shooting out to 500 is not hard for 4x but should I know it's if I need to shoot the target first.

  13. ok i have another silly question that you can possibly answer. if i have an acog on my m4 that is sighted in properly with a quick release, and for whatever reason i remove it, when i put it back on (in the same spot on the 1913 pick rail) will it still be as accurate as it was before i took it off? this is something that i was wondering about as i am still learning how things work. i figured you would have done this before and what was your experience. thank you country mash.

  14. The new poor man's ACOG TA31 with Aurora ACSS Reticle is the new Primary Arms GEN 3 5x Prism Scope with the Aurora ACSS Reticle. An indestructible " Red Dot type " CQB sight that will never fail due to fragility or dead batteries and maybe even work with Night Vision Gear is the SeeAll Mk2 – Tritium Night Sight Rail Mounted optic. That combo would close to being Marine proof for the money. And you should take the tremendous amount of money saved by not getting a Trijicon combo and invest in training. Training will off-set the majority of the Poor Man's combo's short comings from the tiny field of vision, weight, etc. And the skill gained on the less capable and inexpensive gear will largely translate to a higher end kit if so desired down the road. I hope that the Primary Arms GEN 3 5x Prism Scope with the Aurora ACSS Reticle will be reviewed soon, — and maybe throw in the SeeAll sight for giggles as the "Red Dot" mounted on top. And if PA can translate the Aurora ACSS Reticle to their low end $400 1-6x24mm FFP Rifle Scope, then I guess maybe everyone can call it a day and have a beer.

  15. Consider throwing a Holosun 508T V2 on top instead for a truly “powered by the sun” setup. 100,000 hour battery life, it uses the RMR footprint, is made of Titanium, has easy access battery change without dismounting the optic (not that you’ll need to), has red or green option, can swap from red dot to holo sight with the touch of a button, AND it survived Aaron Cowan’s torture test. That’s a lot to offer for something that uses the sun..

  16. I hate do all optics or do all guns in general. They literaly suck at everything and they just dont make sense unless your in a squad. Before someone brings up 3 gun and lpvo just remember they are playing a game. In real life fireamrs is not a game.

  17. You did an absolutely great job with your presentation and review. I currently own and use Acog's now for more than ten yrs, and I have felt the same way to a tee. I love them so much I own two and have literally hundreds of hrs behind them in run and gun comps and two gun. They are beat to crap and still run. My oldest is soon to be shipped back to Trijicon to get rebuilt and refreshed Tritium due to burnout. It took 12 yrs. But now this is where my love is now over. The Acog has entirely too many weaknesses that are being addressed by the newest LPVO's.

    1. The magnification is just not enough. It is one thing to hit a target it is another thing to identify. At 400yds a full size IPSC plate is damn small and 8" plate way smaller yet. The AGOG is terrible at anything over 300 yds. Can you see it? Sure, but can you truly identify it? Now imagine brush and trees etc, etc. 500 yds? Forget it. A prone man with rifle is on average a height of 14". At 450 yds the Acog will not pick that up with the definition to see if that is a threat.

    2. The reticle holds are to specific to ammo type and are not precise enough. They will get you into the pickle barrel but cold bores are not easy or even attainable at anything over 400 yds unless the target is minimum full size IPSC.

    3. You did cover eye relief. You left out a major factor in eye relief though. In the back of your truck shooting off a bag it works fine. Using it around, behind, under, and even worse through small gaps with compromised shooting positions it sucks bad. Wearing a helmet, safety, glasses and ear pro, the operator has to have his or her head in a near perfect shooting position to make it work. This is especially apparent in a prone rolling to one side engagement.

    4. Right hand, left eye dominant. Throw the bindon aiming concept out the door. I have to constantly close the left eye. It sucks. On a non-magnified optic this is not an issue in anyway.

With advancement in tech. There are now three LPVO's that I feel presently have surpassed now by beloved ACOG. But let me start out by saying anything 6 power and under the AGOG is still the better option. The Night Force ATACR 1-8, the Trijicon VCOG 1-8, and the VORTEX Razor 1-10. I now feel it is worth the weight penalty and all have etched reticles so if batteries die they still are seen quite well. They are all FFP and have very good precise reticles (VCOG lacking a bit there), and turrets can be adjusted easily using dope chart if needed for a longer range shot.

I am actually leaning as of now on the Vortex due to two reasons. Reason 1, Ten power is really impressive, I have made cold bore shots out to 1200 yds with nothing more than a 2.5 to 10 optic on my bolt rifle. Reason 2, Price, I absolutely love the ATACR but NF is just to proud of it and I do not believe the juice is worth the squeeze. And trust me I am no fan of VORTEX but their Razor line is actually top tier and I truly believe as rugged as the others. The reticle is the best so far also.

Have RMR's on all my pistols, they are good to go for now until tech makes them obsolete in the future.

Again you did a great review. I just wanted to elaborate to your viewers my personal experience. The investment in glass is way more important than the investment in the firearm itself in most cases. High end glass does not depreciate like the very rifles they are mounted to. On that note do not be afraid in anyway to pickup a used AGOG that is beat to crap and still selling for 600.00. They are truly indestructible and very affordable to get rebuilt. Peace.
