In this video I show a option to installing a the AR-15 Front Sight Base using set screws instead of drilling the barrel and using standard locking pins. Thanks for watching!
In part 2 I ream the holes we drilled in the front sight and the barrel and I install the taper pins. I think I should have reamed the holes a little deeper and used less force on the pins. The reamer is a 2/0 taper reamer for those interested.

Now I need to buy a 10/32 tap ….. I broke 4 different bits today and even gacked my vice when pushing in a taper pin………..after that. I was sick of taper pins I love the gas block on my other AR….. it has set screws. With dimples and a small amount of blue locktite
Great job buddy! I just came up with this idea in my head ( well I thought I did) so I looked it up on YouTube and sure enough someone has already done it! I'm going to get this job done tonight
I did this but I didn't do it through the bayonet lug. I only did it on the rear. My front sight base moves ever so slightly under force so you definitely need to do both holes or do some holes on the side. Hope this helped someone.
When I drilled the second, longer set screw (after the shorter set screw was already holding the gas block firmly in place on the barrel, I just drilled a little deeper past the bayonet lug (1/8th inch), so yes, I put a very deep dimple on the barrel; probably a little too deep, but it did the job.

Edit: I did NOT dimple the barrel.
glad i ran across your vid. the cheapest i found near me to drill the barrel was 80 bucks, thanks for the heads up !

Did you dimple the barrel for the second set screw? (the bayonet lug)
Definitely helpful! I was about to toss this damn sight base lol
nice helpful vid.
