ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) Nineteen-year-old Scott Stoddard was in court Monday, pleading not guilty to charges of inducing panic and using a weapon while intoxicated.
His attorney told a judge, “My client was attempting to leave this bar where people were threatening him, saying things like, ‘Oh, that’s a nice belt that you’re wearing. It would be a shame if you lost it.’ And then they came to the car and they kept on threatening his girlfriend.”
Around 2:30 Saturday morning, deputies say Stoddard and a teenage girl were drunk in the parking lot of the Anderson Towne Center. 911 calls from nearby businesses came flooding in. One caller said, “We’ve got a fight starting in the parking lot. They’re charging at my other bartenders, trying to separate the people.”
Police say the fight in the parking lot continued and Stoddard went to his vehicle, opened it and pulled out an AR-15. That caused even more calls from people at nearby businesses. Another caller said in a panic, “Anderson Towne Center! We need somebody at Anderson Township Center on Beechmont Avenue! Latitudes, please.”
In the background of another call, you hear the commotion.
“What are you doing? He’s got a gun! Someone’s got a gun! He’s got a gun!“ the caller exclaimed.
Two people inside of the bar took Stoddard to the ground and got the rifle away from him. They reportedly held Stoddard until deputies arrived. Stoddard’s lawyer says that the rifle was not loaded.
Latitudes Bar and Bistro put out a statement pointing out that Stoddard and the girl were never inside of the restaurant. The statement also commends the two men who took Stoddard down, putting their own safety at risk.
A judge ordered Stoddard held on a $30,000 bond. According to the Hamilton County Jail’s website, he did make that bond and was released.
