I do some shooting with the BCM ELW 16” barrel, test the accuracy, go over the profile and why it’s advantageous for many shooters, and what I think of it overall.

  1. I just ordered a 14.5" pinned and welded BFH ELW mid length upper. I'm very curious as to how it's going to group. My most accurate rifle is a 18" mid length stainless steel Krieger with a 1/7.7 twist. With 77gr SMK, I'm consistently 3/4-MOA and on a few occasion, 5 shot 1/2-MOA. Thanks for the excellent video.

  2. I'd love to see some 14.5" barrel reviews. Specifically DD/FN/BCM 14.5" LW middy's and Ballistic advantage Hanson profile .625 gas block. Would also like to see the Faxon 14.5 gunner with the permanent FH or brake built right onto the barrel.

I'm trying to find out if a 14.5" mid-length can be as or more reliable than a 16" mid-length just because I like the feel of a 14.5 a little more even though it doesn't really matter much either way.

  3. have an 11.5” bcm elw fluted upper and a 16” elw fluted upper. Shorty has a eotech exps 3-0 and g33, recce has vortex razor hd 1-6.

These two guns cover everything you’d ever want in a AR or fighting rifle.

  4. Was looking at bcms elw-fluted set up. Have you or others you know fired that set up at all and have any thoughts on it. Since it’s a 16 I’m not worried about weight but it’s noticeably more accurate post 100 yards I might lay th extra for it. Thanks.

  5. I would LOVE to see a review of the Criterion hybrid profile barrel carried by Midwest Industries. It also tapers down to a .625 gas block journal but is thicker behind the gas block, overall weighing 5 or 6 oz more than the BCM ELW. Just putting that out there!

  6. Defender ammo is in my home town. (Raeford NC)
I handload but I'm going to buy some 77 grain from them because they are literally a "home grown" business for me. I'm glad I saw this video

  7. I have a BCM upper with a ELW 16" barrel and I'm getting decent accuracy with Wolf Gold (Taiwanese stuff). I have a BCM KMR non-alpha keymod rail so the entire package makes for a nice light rifle.

  8. I have had 2 BFH 14.5” elw barrels I ruined one using a bad gunsmith to install a gas block (I had to drill of screw and I dinged the barrel.) but both have been awesome shot sub 2” at 200 yards with a Acog with 62gr LC greentip and I have also been running the new one mostly suppressed and it is more than acceptable on accuracy

  9. Light barrels can be just as accurate, for sure. That is, until they get hot which they do easier. So, in a protracted gunfight when a lot of rounds are fired, you WILL lose accuracy. That’s why the military doesn’t spec light barrels.

  10. Definitely something to be said about a company that's takes the time to inspect each individual product. Kudos to BCM. Thanks Mike. Keep an eye on Vermont. We need all the help we can get right now.

  11. MrGunsNGear – Was the ELW barrel you were testing in this video the standard or BFH (Hammer Forged) ? I know you mentioned both, but not sure if you stated which one you were actually testing. Thx!
