  1. I bought a 20 ga in 2005 & topped it with a Nikon Pro Hunter 3x9x40 and shoot 3” Lightfield slugs. And have taken easily over a hundred deer with it, most shots are within 50 yards but my farthest was a mature 8 pointer at 174 yards, high shoulder shot & he went about three feet, STRAIGHT DOWN!!! I’m a 52 year old native of Delaware & being a shotgun only state I’ve seen the slug gun technology boom since the early 80’s. This H&R is by far the most accurate, well built & simple slug gun I’ve ever seen or used hands down. They did make an ultra light in this model too with the thinner barrel but it’s not as accurate at 150/200 yards out. In 2014 I caught wind of the discontinuation of the Ultra Slug Hunter I went and purchased another for a spare. It has not been touched. The wood finish did dull when it got wet, I simply sanded it down & refinished with Mini Wax Cherry 235 wood finish, then a Matte spray clear coat & haven’t had to touch it since. There is a reason for everything I guess, but the discontinuation of this gun I can’t see ???!!!!!!!???? Oh yeah thanks for the video 👍

  2. I have never bought a H&R that wasn't worth the money or more. They are a good kept secret. If you want quality without paying the big price, H&R is the maker. I have the Handi rifle in 308 and I love it. You have a nice capable gun. If you go lighter you may loos some capability.

  3. My 12G. H&R Ultra Slug Hunter has a thumb hole stock that sports a single piece Dnz scope mount. The mount cradles a 3-9×40 Nikon SLUGHUNTER BDC 200. The gun is built like a tank so it is heavy but deadly accurate at 200 yards. The recommended ammo is the Remington copper solid or the Remington Accutips which run about $18.00 for a box of 5. I personally don't like to spend that kind of money for a slug so Im experimenting with cheaper rounds.
I'm happy with it. I'm fortunate that I can hunt with rifles in my state if I choose to do so but if ever I go to a state that requires slugs for deer hunting, I feel assured that I have probably the best gun for the job. To each his own. BTW, I don't think they make this gun anymore.

  4. Probably the best shotgun I own. I shot an inch group at 100 yards using lightfields, and three through the same whole at 50 yards with mine. Got 16 deer and never missed one with it. A fine firearm for sure.

  5. Your shotgun may be the one they no longer make. They had a model based on the 10 gauge action,  The 12 gauge rifled slug barrel was very thick. and very heavy.. To counter the weight they added steel rods in the stock. Current 12 gauge ultra slug guns are lighter . They are made from a standard Topper 12 gauge action and have smaller dia. barrel. I Think they still use a steel rod in the stock to counter the barrel weight. This could be removed to make it even nicer to carry.

  6. hay buddy. can you tell me how big the buttstock is. im trying to get an aftermarket one. and mine is not in yet… but if you can just tell me about how many inchs tall and wide that will be great. thanks.

  7. Buddy of mine has one of these, 12 gauge. Ill tell ya, This thing will drop anything with incredible accuracy. One well placed shot is all you need and your fridge us stocked.

  8. do you have and amount of play in the barrel break button, or is there little movement in it when closed. I noticed play in mine is why I ask. Older new England 20 gauge doesn't have the movement. H&R and  New
    England are the same.

  9. just my 2 cents…. u said u wanted a lighter gun for next season and they make a ultra light slug hunter by H&R and it ways about 5 pounds…. I got it and its the best gun I ever had

  10. I buy a used 12g h&r ultra slug hunter but in perfect condition and i have a question, when i shake the gun, i hear a toc toc near the butt of the gun, it's the recoil pad or? It's like a piece is shaking in the stock… sorry for my english and i wait your response soon, thank you!

  11. Yes it's very well built, it's ideal if you don't have to carry it far and need to shoot a long ways haha. I shoot Hornady SST sabots and they are really accurate in this gun.
