  1. I bought a free float rail for my Carbon 15. I was able to remove everything without damaging anyting.
We actually put the polymer upper on a milling machine and build out a section so the Troy rail to fit properly. Put everything back together and everything worked like a charm.

I did notice that the barrel nut what's the different size and it was proprietary. I called Remington / Bushmaster and they told me about the torque specs. I think they told me 35 or 45 Max.
I used 45 foot pounds and the threads held up fine.

I ended up taking the gas block off which was actually machine shop operation. They anodize the gas block after they drive the taper pins in. Those suckers were never coming out we thought.

I put in Adams Arms piston kit in and the gun ran like a champ.

  2. Anyone put an aluminum upper on their carbon 15? I replaced the carbon upper with a stripped anderson upper and used every part from the carbon upper. Seems to fit fine, but the gun will not cycle properly. Dropping the bolt usually results in a round not going fully forward, about a half inch short. Tap/rack results in a stage 3 malfunction. Is the Carbon 15 lower not milspec? Or was their a height difference between the carbon upper/anderson upper that results in different mag height?

  3. So i too, have a Carbon 15. I noticed on BCM site, their uppers are only meant for a barrel that has the m4 barrel extension. After examining my Carbon 15, i don't think it has that extension. I'm curious if that upper will fit on this gun? Or any m4 style upper?

  4. The upper from my S&W sport will not mate to my carbon 15. Front hinge thickness is different! Don't know how you made yours work. All internals are compatable in lower, bolt etc.

  5. I was luckyish with mine and both the upper and lower failed under warranty, so I got a lightweight xm-15 e2s for under $500. Worked out in the end but the rifle has spent more time at factory repair as to in my possession.

  6. I destroyed the upper on my C15 a couple of years ago by having an idiot at the local gun shop trying to switch out my muzzle device and sent it to Bushmaster to have them take a look at it and three months later I got it back with an XM15 upper with the barrel and gas block from the C15. At first I thought it was odd, but it's grown in me and after 1,000+ rounds I haven't had a single malfunction.

  7. I've had my barrel nut off my Carbon 15. I took it apart instead of cutting the delta ring off like some people so. I was already aware that it uses a special proprietary barrel nut. I called Bushmaster for the torque specs on it and they said no more than 27 lbs. so I put it back on with 25 lbs torque. I think most people that don't know about the fine threads on the carbon 15 will strip them out. Bushmaster now makes the Carbon 15 with an aluminum upper and a standard barrel nut. The Wyndham Carbon Fiber SRC is still made with the upper and lower both in carbon fiber. they are made beefier than the Bushmaster and also use a standard barrel nut.

  8. @kotaboy32 Firearms Review Bushmaster has since made a carbon 15 that comes stock with a aluminum upper. The downside is it don't have a foward assist. I don't know if they decided to keep the barrel nut a weird size so you can transfer that pencil barrel to another gun, but I assume you could since it's a aluminum upper
