Description and review of my Bushmaster GP gas piston rifle.

Great way to get into the piston AR game and not break the bank.

  1. @dillontube1 I never found one. I thought I saw a YHM two piece a few months ago, and now can't even find mention of them. I may have been hallucinating, in a gun-fog or something. I'll keep an eye out though. I'll let you know if I find anything.

  2. @m555c I've handled one and seen it fired, looked like standard AR-piston fare. Didn't burp though, and the guy put about 300 rounds through it. I've heard they've gone through design changes, and I don't remember any unusual wear on his.

  3. @downriverfirepower Hey, I checked out the ADCOR. I like it alot. Have you tested one of these. I can't remember if you had or not. I was wondering about wear at the front charging handle. Were the handle comes to rest in the rail slot. I saw that this had been an issue for someone. Thanks!

  4. @FormerMPSGT Thanks man. I am really happy with the free float DD quad rail I added to my DD rifle, but I haven't seen one for a piston rifle. I'll take a look out there and see what I find. Thanks for watching.

  5. I'm not sure, I'm looking into it. I know my rifles buffer tube is commercial spec, which I was a bit angry about since it wasn't listed in the manual, and I went ahead and bought a VLTOR stock for it in mil spec. I'll let you know about the buffer spring when I find out. Probably standard, but I'll change it if so.

  6. I'm glad to hear you haven't had any issues with this Bushmaster. I hear talk about Bushmaster as well. Some good some bad. I've done searches on the forums but haven't really found to much about the version you have and tilting. The talk seems to mostly be about the conversion kit. The Bushmaster FAQ says no problems have been reported about tilting. I guess from what little I can find that must be true. Hope so, anyway! I'll check out that upper you mentioned. Thanks for your help!

  7. @m555c range. Don't be afraid of a Bushy, it's not an LWRC, or a LMT, but you could buy 2 Bushy's and spare parts for the price of one of the above mentioned rifles. Another good upper choice is the ADCOR Defense BEAR. I may be butchering that name but look 'em up.

  8. @m555c I haven't seen any evidence of bolt carrier tilt. I have heard that the Bushy's are more prone than other piston rifles. I have had absolutely no problems, and no failures. I always hear people talk down about Bushmaster's and don't think they have earned 99 percent of the critisism. I have owned 5 Bushy's over the last 10 years and over 25 other assorted AR's, including 2 Colt's and at least 5 customs costing over 2000 bucks apiece without add ons, and Bushy's are fine in their price
