  1. Good advice for ARs – less is more.
Consider Purpose of Use (POU) and weight. You don't want to carry a 20 lb. weapon.
    K.I.S.S.!  Keep it Simple!
Train with what you have! You don't have to spend rounds to train dry fire.
With repetition comes speed and your training will become instinctual.

  2. Ambi mag release isn't needed because we should be retaining our mags?? They don't teach speed reloads at gun sight? I've been to several classes WITHOUT the ambi mag release and was ALWAYS at a disadvantage. Not something I want to be in during a firefight!

  3. i have a Sig flashlight/laser for grip. I love it on my AR, i never thought about having a light and laser that isn't visible. I will check into that. It will come in handy on my 22 for the darn coyyotes at night. What kind would you suggest?

  4. Just a quick comment from a lefty. I like the ambi controls on my rifles. Doesn't add much weight and makes operation easier. Not sure if this is the commentator's personal rifle but it appears he is running an extended mag release on the left side – this doesn't jive with his "less" is better attitude. Also, if anything is ever going to get hung up it is that 3x Aimpoint maginifier hanging off the side when not in use – Just saying.

  5. what ever happened to the KISS principle. All I've got on my AR is a Magpul single point sling, MBUS sights, Nordic hand guard with no rails and a Miculek brake. I'm good from 0-300 yards and would trust it with my life. Remember accessories won't help you if you can't even use the simple stuff.

  6. It's a Carlson Adjustable sold by Double Star. I've had some trouble with the pin coming lose, though. There are a few other companies that sell compensators that exhaust forwards, like the popular Levang Linear comp or the Kies Blasmaster. I have one of the latter on a bolt-action .300 Whisper and it's quite nice as it reduces recoil a bit and directs noise and blast forwards.

  7. What model is that brake (upward exhaust) if you don't mind me asking? Certainly interested in it…barrel isn't threaded though…Maybe I'll check out some stocks or something instead.

  8. Truth be told, I'd much rather have the pistol grip than a flash hider. I have a few ARs, and they all have pinned muzzle devices or a bull barrel. My good carbine does have a brake on it, but it's an adjustable brake that only exhausts upwards, so it's a bit friendlier with other shooters nearby.

  9. Alright, that's what I thought. As of now, I don't have any 'evil' features on my AR. Maybe I'll invest in a Flash Suppressor.

  10. Oh, if you don't have another evil feature, you don't have to pin a flashhider, since it or a threaded barrel count as a feature.

"A FLASH SUPPRESSOR OR THREADED BARREL DESIGNED TO ACCOMMODATE A FLASH SUPPRESSOR"

  11. I live in New York too. Thought I read we could use if pinned as long as we didn't have another 'evil' feature such as a pistol grip, collapsible stock, etc.?
