BUNKER REVIEW: Palmetto Armory PA-15 10" Pistol

It’s probably not my first choice for a lot of the applications discussed BUT the Palmetto Armory PA-15 10″ Pistol shot fabulously. And the complete version only costs $400 and kits are only $300 [buy from Gunnies, TNP supporter!). It’s safe to say this is the Golden Era of the AR-15: wide availability, quality cost effective options, great reliability and durability, perfected ergos, and amazing value.
Once we push past the ballistics, noise, and concussion of this 10.5″ PSA offering, you’ll see the excellent quality for the price paid on this gun. Reliability, accuracy, build options, muzzle device consideration, SAWC, and more are covered. This might make a good, compact law enforcement patrol carbine…also for a civilian sheepdog. Again for most uses a regular 16″ barrel is preferred. We are back in the Bunker with some other gun cast members that will come into play!

Gunnies Store in Orem gunniesonline.com is their new webstore. Please buy from them for their support of TNP. Gunnies Great American Western Wear Store, Address: 396 State St, Orem, UT 84058 Hours: 10AM–8PM, Ph 801-226-7080

Note: trigger in this pistol is a Palmetto trigger which was included in the factory kit

  1. From Patreon member Pez Pezzer: "Bunker Review…Bunker Review…Bunker Review! Yay, and thank you for this highly anticipated GRV from within the TNP Bunker studio located in a top secret forest deep somewhere in the western US. I have actually been considering a PSA product with their amazing pricing but was just not sure if I wanted to go AR Pistol or not. This review dose indeed confirm a few things I have learned in my somewhat short time following the project since spring 2017. First of all your continued promotion of the 16 inch AR build. They can serve both lightweight patrol rifle as well as compact SPR duties depending on setup. Also I fully like and have copied your "Two Upper One Lower" philosophy with a mid-weight (under 7.5 pounds) 16" CHF medium profile 1:7 upper setup for CQB out to about 300m or more with an unmagnified optic and weapon light. Plus I have now acquired a 20" SPR upper with 1:7 CHF fluted barrel and wearing a 2.5-15×50 high quality optic for long range work zeroed for 77 grain bullets. I will get the weight on that configuration when I get my BUS and sling installed. This does seem to be the best of both worlds plus I already own a two section soft sided field case that perfectly fits the 16" complete rifle and the 20" SPR lower with cleaning and support gear. Looking forward to taking that upper out and seeing how it does at 300+ yards. Keep up the awesomeness Nutn'!

  2. Velocity, M193 fragments, and less fragmentation at lower velocity. 55gr and 62gr FMJ will still tumble/ice pick after a few inches. 'Carry ammo' is Mk318 Mod1 though, and many others, that are less dependent on velocity.

  3. AR pistols make more sense. WROL won't be out in the woods or desert for most. It'll be in the cities and towns. God willing, the cars will still be running. But PSA, and anyone else, who will source whatever parts are cheap worry me.

  4. Nutn, have you seen some of the lightweight ar 15 parts coming out these days? Brigand arms is making an extremely strong carbon fiber handguard for a comparable price to the high end bravo company handguard. The 12” weighs 4.6 oz with barrel nut. M-lok compatible.

There is also a company called smoke composites making a carbon fiber integrated buffer tube/stock that weighs 11 oz LESS than the MFT setup with standard buffer tube. Yeah, it’s a fixed stock, but it comes in 2 sizes.

These are small companies that haven’t caught on mainstream yet, but they have some high quality products that fit your SAWC philosophy. I took a chance on them and am extremely satisfied. They’re worth checking out.

  5. PSA is probably my favorite company in the firearms world. They make great budget friendly AR-15s, their AKs are looking very promising and they have been very open and honest about issues that were reported with some of their AK9s which they were fast to fix. They have a great warranty and they are staunch supporters of the 2nd amendment.

  6. POU:

Concealed carry, not walking around stuffed down my drawers though.

In Kentucky, I can drive around with a loaded mag in the mag well of a rifle. If I decide I need to run a couple of miles south into Tennessee I have to pull over, get out the case out and remove the mag. Do not have to do that with the pistol.

Also, I drive a compact car so the smaller size saves me some space for other things inside my car.

  7. Wow that's crazy value. This makes it really hard to justify a PCC. Less money than even a Sub 2k, 5.56 is about as affordable to shoot as 9mm, 5.56 is lighter weight and way way more capable. At less than $400 everyone (in a free state, I live in CA dam it!) should own one.

  8. I see there is at least one bill pending in the House to make ALL AR pistols SBR's and require registration and tax stamps. Will it pass? Probably not right away but I think it will in the near to slightly later future. If a Dem makes the POTUS and the R's loose the Senate it gets passed next day…..

  9. PSA makes good stuff. I live about 20 minutes from one of their stores and you simply cannot beat their pricing. They also run crazy deals on ammo and handguns!

  10. It’s a great “truck gun”
Not a bunch of money but there if you need it. One thing you may not consider nutnfancy, where you live there are wide open areas where a 16” or 18” barrel makes more sense. But where I live you can’t look 100 yards in one direction and not see trees. Although I like the short barrels my gtw gun would be a 16”
