On April 2nd, the Oregon state Senate Judiciary Committee will be holding a public hearing where they will discuss Senate Bill 978.  Though Senate Bill 978 as introduced would direct the Oregon State Police to study unlawful transfers, anti-gun legislators will be amending it into an omnibus gun control package that will include provisions from legislation already introduced during this session.  NRA members and Second Amendment supporters are encouraged to attend the public hearing to oppose SB 978.  Information may be found here and below.

Amended bill language could include:

  • Imposing one-size-fits-all, government mandated firearm storage methods that require firearms be unavailable for self-defense and does not consider personal circumstances.
  • Discriminating against young adults under the age of 21 by denying them their Second Amendment rights
  • Expanding so called “gun-free zones” where law-abiding citizens are left defenseless against criminals who simply ignore such arbitrary boundaries.
  • Imposing additional government red tape in order to obtain a Concealed Handgun License.

Public testimony before the committee will be limited to 2 minutes per person.  If you would like to testify, please sign up outside Hearing Room 50 beginning at 7:30 AM.  Individuals who do not wish to testify do not need to sign up.  If you are unable to testify in person, please submit written testimony for the committee meeting record to sjud.exhibits@oregonlegislature.gov.

Your NRA will provide an update as soon as bill language becomes available.  Please stay tuned to www.nraila.org and your email inbox.
