Georgia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams said on Tuesday that she wants to ban semi-automatic rifles and refused to answer whether she supports the government confiscating firearms from the public.
Appearing on ABC’s “The View” with co-host Meghan McCain, Abrams addressed her stances on the Second Amendment using common left-wing tactics to downplay her views, which have earned her the support of the pro-gun control group Everytown for Gun Safety and an “F”-rating from the NRA.
“Do you like Everytown’s support for banning the AR-15?” McCain asked.
Abrams immediately tried to portray herself as a supporter of the Second Amendment by saying, “let’s be clear, I am not anti-gun,” as she then talked about her personal experiences with firearms.
Abrams then called semi-automatic weapons “weapons of mass destruction,” saying that they do not “belong in civilian hands.”
“I assume that by banning it, you would be rounding them up,” McCain said. “It’s the most popular gun in America … Would you be rounding them up from civilians in Georgia?”
Abrams refused to answer whether she would have the government go door-to-door to confiscate the public’s firearms.
