  1. what would you recomend for weddings I was shoting with JVC GY-HD200u than JVC GY-HM250 any recomendations i hate when I stabilized video but the rolling shuttter looks horrible when edit in Final cut X so I was loking in to this camera or the Panasonic AG-DVX200

  2. This is super helpful. I'm looking at getting this and will partly be using it for filming myself giving training. Does the touch screen flip all the way around so you could see yourself in front of the camera? Thank you!

  3. more than 2 years later, I still think this camera represents good bang for buck.

I'm normally all about the manual settings, but honestly, I think the intelligent auto looks trustworthy from all the reviews I've seen. I wonder if you still have it and what you think of it now.

  4. I like the review, but the dead space in the audio when you're not talking is really jarring and the audio edits are really rough – poor audio quality from a person who is supposed to know what they are doing with video makes me lose total confidence in your opinions. A low level music bed and smoother fades would seriously improve the watchability of this review.

  5. This is a nice refreshing review of this camera.. other than the usual reviews around you YouTube that mostly seem to be complaints about it, than how does it actually handle in the real world.. I'm wondering if this could be a worthy successor to my very old n tired Sony HDR FX7. Now IF only I had the money..

  6. THIS IS A FAR BETTER REVIEW THAN MOST, B/C IT IS DONE EXACTLY WITH THE KIND OF A MIND, LIKE THE "GUY" WHO NEEDS TO BE FORCED TO BUY SOMETHING THAT "HE" CAN AFFORD, BUT NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND EXACTLY WHAT DEFICIENCIES HE HAS TO CONSTANTLY LIVE/WORK WITH IN THE NEVER-PERFECT PRODUCT-FOR-THE-PRICE.

  7. great reveiw, Ive got one it seems to do what i ask it but like you say about low light, I think the sensor could have been bigger, But for the size and price the images are awsome.

  8. Well, I just ordered one now in 2017. It's come down in price since the advent of the DVX200 and pending EVA1. This is my first camcorder, in fact first proper video camera, so I think for a beginner I'll get a lot out of it. My primary interest is cinematography not videography so it may seem like a strange choice, but I like the all in one design, the small size, and the small price. Would the DVX200 make for better quality pictures in low light, easier to achieve depth of field? Of course. But where I live that camera is twice the price of this one. Add to that it's larger and more conspicuous. For now I'll work within the limits of x1000 and be happy with it. I think it offers plenty.

  9. A bit of advice about your issues with skin tone and the zoom. Don't neglect color grading as a step in your editing process. It's best to shoot in a flat color setting and then color grade to get those custom gamma settings. Thanks for your review though. I'm about to replace the HVX200 you see in my pic.

  10. This is so great – I've just shot a music video here in NZ with the HCX and the performance was incredible – i do agree with the low lighting difficulties and this was a struggle filming night scenes however lighting sets comes as part of the industry and this just serves the perpous of HCX being more of a pro industry camera in general. This is a great review! Epic stuff! thanks

  11. Thank you for this very detailed and thoughtful review. This is almost as good as actually having a demo model in my hands. Great reference footage. (*Small detail for people watching this, the recording speed of this camera is measured in Mbps, IE megaBITS, not megaBYTES. So if 200 "megs" per second sounds fast, that's because it's actually moving at 25 "megs" per second.)
