Streamlight TLR-1 HL Review

Here is a look at the new TLR-1 HL from streamlight. They are claiming 630 lumens on this light… Watch me compare it with the original TLR-1s, TLR-2, and TLR-3 weapon lights.

This light uses the same (2) CR123 batteries and has a estimated run time 1.25 hours.

  1. I'm torn, want the trl 1 hl, but the heat issue is a small concern. If you could have only one? The tlr1s with the cooler running temp or the tlr 1 hl? 300 lumens seems like enough for inside defense, which will be 90% of its job. Thoughts?

  2. So clearly the light is very bright. My two questions are this, with the light mounted, do you notice the heat it gives off? Now that you have had the light fir a bit, how well is it holding up? Is it worth the financial savings over the surefire x300 ultra?

  3. When it comes to Lumens, it may not be 4x brighter as you may suspect, but think of it this way… The brightness is of course more, but keep in mind the center hot spot is also 4x the area of the others, with additional brightness. You'll need at least 4x the increase in lumens in order to cover that much more area with the same or better brightness.

I'm definitely considering this for my new 1911 with a tactical light rail.
