Today Joel shoots two almost identical Seekins SP10’s except one is chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor while the other is a .308! Shooting steel to 1000 yards to see which one comes out on top.

My mistake: I said M98 Mauser when I meant to say M96. Apologies.
Also, I’m aware that I showed photos of a 30-06 in here. I was referring to the general category of bullets as opposed to a specific caliber.
Barrel length?
Between both those calibers, which one will go straighter through glass or even grass? My money is on the 308
what rounds and manufactures and all other details why even make this vid waste of our time and yours
and an A-Max 50 bmg is better than both… so whats your point? theres always a better bullet, hell ive seen a factory 30-06 get sub MOA
find what your rifle likes and stick with it.
1:32 that's not a m96 that is a Springfield Model 1892.
A lot of idiots in the comments act like the 6.5 is the equivalent of a 22 mag and the 308 hits like a 454 casul. The 6.5 can do everything the 308 can and more, with less recoil. That's it. Deal with it. People are way too attached to caliber choice. Numbers don't lie. "you can load this and that to match it" "I've got 394957282 rounds of 308 it's way cheaper to shoot" surplus 308/7.62×51 doesn't hold a candle to generic 6.5 loads. You have to hand load to make 308 competitive. 6.5 in it's various forms has been around for a century. It isn't boutique. It isn't going anywhere. It's dropped thousands of moose and men alike. Face facts. That said….I have both and will use both this hunting season. Because this is fucking America
At this point in the game I don’t think anybody is debating that the 6.5 Creedmoor is more efficient than the .308 Win. I appreciate the time and effort that went into this, but this test could have been a better apples to apples comparison. What ammunition was used? I saw both Federal GMM and Hornady ammunition present in the video. Bullet selection could tip the scales slightly, especially with some of the new VLD selections out there. Also, the .308 has a shorter barrel (looks like about 2 or 3 inches) than the 6.5 in the video, which will favor the 6.5 even more. Obviously none of what I just mentioned is going to change that the 6.5 is lighter recoiling and more efficient at distance, but it could mean that the .308 hangs with the 6.5 for another 50-100 yards. Still, thank you for the test, I certainly don’t have access to the rifles or range to do anything like this. Finally, what’s up with the reliability on the 6.5 gun? A couple of shots the case failed to eject. Did you get that sorted out?
.308 can and will always be available everywhere. Barrel life for .308 is also known to be double that of comparable 6.5creed barrels.
Not a good test! The creedmore has a substantially longer barrel than the 308. The 308’s muzzle velocity is critically compromised with a 16 inch barrel.
good comparison, I'll keep the 6.5 in mind but unless there's widespread adoption of the cartridge (say LE or military) the rounds are going to be a bit on the expensive side, with a 308 I know there's a lot of variety and anywhere that sells ammo will carry it; if in the future 6.5 is more prolific it'll certainly be worth a pick up though
Did any one see the 6.5 has a longer barrel on it that in its self will give longer accurate distance. 6.5 not better by any means. Same gun means exactly the same, barrel length included
Almost identical?? Your test I g rounds for which is better long range. Ballisticly 6.5 is better.. however a fair test would have test rifles with same length barrels..
I gotta say it. Your ballistic tables for windage and drop are correct yes, but if your going to be comparing apples to apples make the initial muzzle velocity the same on the calculator. It might not seem much but when comparing the actual projectile in flight its very important to keep that a controlled variable.
I have heard that the 25-06 is very comparable to the 6.5. How much so and and what distances doe this hold true?
30-06 for life
I've hunted with the 6.5 Swede, now I'm going for the Tikka T3 Tac A1 in 6.5 creedmoor.
I have been preaching the virtues of the 6.5s since the 80s, now all of the sudden everyone else gets it too. Don't own a Creedmoor (yet) but the 6.5×55 has been my favorite hunting cartridge for a long long time now with only the 7mm-08 rivaling it for the perfect deer hunting cartridge. Hits hard enough to drop them in their tracks, kicks so little you can watch them drop through the scope.
If you're shooting factory ammo stick with 308 for affordable ammo. If you're a handloaded go for the Creedmoor, won't cost any more than 308.
The barrel lengths are different. Do i need to have a yard stick of barrel for 6.5 to be better than 308? If so, no thanks.
What is the Ballistics Program you are using?
6.5×47 and 300 win mag is all i shoot
308 Everytime 💪 round 😂
The velocity drop is markedly faster with the 308
.308 already sucked when it was introduced in the army, a shame that we didnt went with something like the .280 british
Didn't we already know 6.5 CM is more accurate round than 308? My only concern is the huge difference in cavity between those rounds against ballistic gel. I've seen couple tests, 308 created double the temp cavity 6.5 did. That to me is a big problem.
My 270 shoots flatter with less drop, and all holes touching at 100 yards. Total package cost me $550 plus tax. Weatherby Vanguard sporter with a Nikon Monarch 3 2-10×42
For all of these new 1000 yard shooters out there.
Joel, great video. Can you discuss the stopping power between the two rounds between 700 and a 1000 yards?? Is there a measurable difference?
The fact that you need to use a larger target for the 308 should tell you all you need to know
