Lightweight AR-15 Build

Today on FunwiththeGun, we’re building a brand new lightweight AR-15!

Have you ever picked up an AR-15 and thought to yourself “man, this is just too heavy for what’s basically a .22 caliber gun!” I have. And so I set out to build the lightest AR-15 I could, while keeping the budget under $2000. We used a combination of lightweight steel, aluminum, and titanium parts to achieve this. However, keeping weight down wasnt the only goal we had in mind. We wanted this rifle to also be able to function as a SHTF, reliable fighting rifle, which stopped us from using a lightweight bolt carrier group, which would ultimately require us to use an adjustable gas block as well. The resulting Rifle weighed in at an astonishing 5.7 pounds unloaded and without optic. With optic and a 10 round mag, probably closer to 6.4. We absolutely love the end result and this gun has quickly become a new favorite in the arsenal.
