It seems that the PolyTac flashlight by Streamlight has limited potential as a weapon light. On a 22? Go for it! On an AR? You’re probably fine. On a shotgun?! Steer clear, buddy. Based on my experience, this otherwise tough light can’t take the real heavy recoil found in guns like my Remington 870. However, it looks like the damage incurred was reversible, and this light is working fine now. The only questions left are: What light will work with my 870, and what do I do with this Streamlight PolyTac?

Scorpion doesn’t work on shotgun. The rubber sleeve rolls off, if it doesn’t just fly out of a mount. The switch cracked. I glued the switch into the barrel and now it’s a toolbox flashlight. A new one is a great hand held light. Blazing daylight bright.
Mine has a little spring in the tail cap, and a bigger spring , too, like in the head.
"Sometimes you have to find out the hardway". Thanks for saving us from that especially since I just now came from "The 5 Best Stevens 350 Shotgun Accessories – Reviews 2018" that recommends it; presumably based upon price.
I doubt recoil caused the spring to do that. Unless something was loose inside to slam into the spring to push/knock it in.
I think it was defective in the first place. There is alot of people who only use it on shotguns and have never failed.
Streamlight has the most excellent customer service that I have ever dealt with. I fixed my own stuff as well, a TLR-2 started mis-behaving. I fixed it….they still paid the shipping both ways and told me to send it back regardless. I got a brand new replacement.
i just bought the new version of the polytac and it now has 275 lumens vs 130. also it has strobe and a 14 lumen low setting. the rear spring is a lot more robust plus it has a spring in the top contact. i have shot 100 rounds thru my 12 guage with not even a flicker. looks like they addressed the issue.
May I ask how you removed the clip? Can't seem to figure it out.
I have a streamlight scorpion on my Remington 870 police magnum. I've had it on there for two years with a ton of rounds through it. No problems whatsoever.
Whats your thought about flashlights blowing up using two 123a's?
I just bought this light for my 7.62 ak, hope it works fine with that! Well, at least i know how to fix it if it doesn't lol. Thanks for the update!
Is this light made in the usa?
These are on sale at LA police gear for 35.00. I saw the sale and your review at the same time. I might have to get one. I'm using an old LED lensor now in the hand held roll that has seen its better days.
Thanks for the info on gear that works, doesn't work, diy mods & so on.
nothing worse than a flickering flashlight. thats the worse man. full suckage.
Glad you got it fixed! Thats an awesome setup!
I use a surefire G2 led on my 590A1. As for what to do with it, I like Clint Smith's stance. Two is one, one is none.
What to do with it? Give it to me, duuhh!!! LOL Great vid LateBoy as always!!
Very good video.
