Why I like the Mossberg MVP Long Range .308

A friend loaned me his Mossberg MVP .308 Long Range, so I decided to get feel for it at 500 yards. Given what I saw, I expect it can stretch out to much longer distances pretty easily. I might need to get one of my own to confirm that.

  1. You have to remember, this is a bench rifle and not meant to be used in such manner you used it. So I think accuracy could be better than what you got. Also, a bubble level will help so much. But what do I know? I’m nobody.

  2. I know this is an old video. With that said, this rifle is light weight. Its accurate enough for target shooting inside 600 yards. With your typical 150 grain deer load, its more than capable of putting down a deer inside 300 yards. ( further if you use the more expensive specialty ammo). You can't go wrong with that rig. As a bonus, if you live in the correct state, you can put a can on it and you have the ultimate stealth deer rig.

  3. Are you sure it's .308? I thought you are talking about 5.56…=D
.308 should work well on 800 yards and even farther as far as my experience. And sure, Moss MVP is well rounded rifle.

  4. May I suggest a good optic primary arms4-14 x 44 primary arms ACSS retical for a 308/7.62×51 Cartridge that will give you your holdovers and bullet drops on the weight of bullet that you side and for. Preferably Preferably a 150 grain to 168 grain bullet in either Softpoint or FMJ. I have these optics on quite a few of my rifles in various forms. The glass is exceptionally clear for the price point and the scopes are absolutely awesome

  5. I had a MVP 308 16 inch mossberg bolt action rifle. The bolt was so ruff it was insane. It was not a smooth action. I even sent it in to have mossberg look at it they replaced the receiver and it was still like that. this is literally the worst bolt in terms of smoothness. I sold it, other people have reported the same problem with the roughness of the action when cycling rounds. Go with a Savage 10 FCP SR or a Ruger Precision really smooth bolt on both.

  6. For the MVP LC .308 I have I load my own ammo and use Hornady match brass and ELD-X 178gr. bullets with Varget powder and get 2900 fps. Great shooter, no doubt. You can really see the value once you reload your own ammunition.

  7. Being an M14 collector this MVP rifle is my bolt action of choice due to M14 magazine acceptance. Its always good to have interchangeability. Either its ammo, magazines, or parts. Ammo and magazines in this case.

  8. When are you well and getting well know guys going to get together on this income stream robbery, by you tube. Anyone know of any action please get back. As for this vid. I have one of their shot guns and this 308 look like my next wall hanger.

  9. Interesting fact about the magazine compatibility. However with a bolt action rifle how many magazines would one really need? I've had bolt action magazine fed rifles for 40 years. Aside from the magazine that came with them I think I have one extra factory one for each of them as a spare. Can't say that the spares were ever used on the same day as the one in the rifle. Sounds like someone needing to carry fourteen bumper jacks in the car trunk before going on a day trip.

  10. I love my MVP 308. Thanks for bringing others shooters attention to it. With in months of the MVP long range hitting the shelves the ruger precision came out and this rifle seems to get forgotten. But it several hundred $ less and a few pounds lighter. Still has merit.
    Thanks
