Choosing a Weapon for Home Defense – Pistol, Shotgun, or AR-15

When choosing a weapon for home defense, there are a handful of things to consider. Should you go with a pistol, because it is what you are familiar with? Should you go with a shotgun, because it makes a scary noise? Should you go with an AR-15, because it has high capacity and is easy to operate?

All these questions and more are answered in this video, that will hopefully shed some light on the question of “What is the best gun for home defense?” They all have their pros and cons, but some have more pros than others… *cough AR15 cough*

This is a highly controversial topic, and if you disagree, let me know why!

  1. I have an AR with 5.56 on my side of the bed, my wife has a Shotgun, and I have a 9mm pistol on the night stand. All with 200+ lumen flashlights, so we can see what we are about to kill. Important note, we don’t have any kids so this is easier to do safely compared to larger family houses. Great video.

  2. I'm in between choosing the shotgun or the ar15. I love the one shot potential of the shotgun, just a complete fight stopper and for the size of place I live in it's really a great choice. Like you said however, the AR 15 has so many pros but if someone is coming into my place I'm not going to be clearing my home. That's super sketchy in my opinion, I'll hold up I'm my room and call get a cops.

  3. Good God, man. What kind of fantasy gunfight are you expecting? Bad guys run away if the victim shows any capacity to defend themselves and it's not a personal matter. They just want your stuff. And if they find that you're willing to kill them to defend it, they will go away. They might come back later if they took the defeat personal, but by then you'll know better.

  4. In a shooting situation you will not hear much of anything…your hearing goes as well as your eyesight. Your eyesight will be like looking down two straws and maybe you might hear the "pop" of the shots…so forget the earmuffs, and worry about your threat or threats! Been there and done that!

  5. I don't recommend a flashlight as an accessory on a home defense weapon, it gives the perp your position/location. If you're really worried about your house being too dark, I recommend getting outlet mounted battery lights. You keep them plugged in 24/7 and if there is a power outage or someone purposely cuts the power, the lights turn on and start to run on its internal battery. Home defense aside, its also just a great tool for times when your houses power may go out so you don't trip over the dog moving around the house.

  6. u want an. AR-15 TO DEFEND YOUR HOME? UR EXPECTING ISIS OPERATORS WITH BODY ARMOR?
INSIDE YOUR HOME U JUST NEED A .45ACP WITH HOLLOW POINTS ur A.R. 15 will swiss cheese your dry wall and kill ur family or friends… "OVER PENETRATION"

  7. I watched a video of a college shooter shooting a 20 year old girl in the chest at 10 yards with bird shot and she just walked away and that's why I will never rely on a shotgun for a first choice for self defense
