I do some shooting with the new Magpul Gen 2 UBR (Utility Battle Rifle Stock) A5 stock, go over it’s features, how it differs from the original UBR stock, and what I think of it overall.

  1. looking for compact AR15 stock that collapses flush with buffer tube. Any ideas? LWRC Compact seems to fit the bill. Standard M4 stocks seem to sit 1/2" proud of the buffer tube. I want the shortest stock possible for shooting while wearing 1" thick level IV plates. Buttstock is to sit on center of plates when shooting.

  2. I waited FOREVER for the UBR 2.0 (selected it for a build not long after it was announced), but in the end, IMO it was worth it. This stock has the durability of the UBR 1 but with a bit less weight and more advanced engineering and A5 buffer system compatibility. I run it on my "heavy SBR", which I use for a 5.56 / m203 40mm upper as well as a 458 SOCOM upper. Couldn't be happier. Just like the review says, the solid feel / durability of a fixed stock with the adjust-ability of a collapsing stock. I suppose it could be cheaper (couldn't everything?) but it's a hell of a product.

  3. Hate my UBR.. way too heavy.. paid like $369 for mine years ago and spends it time sitting in a box at the top of the closet.. nice stock and rock solid just not practical for an AR15 rifle and use. It does substantially eat up more recoil and shoulder better then almost all other stocks but still too heavy for my tastes..

Hell of a lot cheaper then the originals were when they first came out.

  4. Looks like Magpul put a lot more thought into the Gen 2. Only carbine length buffers and springs can be used on the original. Looks like it would lessen some issues with rifle length gas systems and carbine buffers and springs.

  5. Been debating with myself on what stock to use on a 6.5 Grendel DMR/SPR inspired build. I have almost everything but the stock. Want something solid, but needs adjust-ability because it will primarily be my wife's rifle. She's 5'-1" and I'm 5'-10. I think you just made up my mind. This looks perfect. Thanks!

  6. Nice review. You obviously did most of you shooting a few months ago since you're not wearing a parka & Muck Boots. πŸ™‚ Good idea banking a few vids in the warmer months so you don't have to go outside in Freezageddon too often.
