Eotech 512 FAILURE (not cool)

My Eotech 512 just failed the other day when taking it out of storage. After troubleshooting the sight with the manufacturer they have agreed to repair the sight free of cost even though it’s out of warranty. For that, I am grateful and I think it shows how good of a company Eotech is. But at the same time, I am particularly turned off by the nature of the failure. It failed during an inspection and the sight has barely been used in the last 3 years. I am not entirely sure if I will continue using Eotech‘s or if i will switch to another sight after this. I’ll update the situation when the sight is returned.

  1. the Book of the AR15 (found at booksamill) has an article this month that details how the springs in the battery pack fatigue and compress under heavy use. A soldier used a squishy foam earplug cut in half and superglued it to the back of the battery contact plate. He fixed an entire Marine platoons this way with no further problems. I understand eotech should be in tune with this (especially for the cost) but may be a good consideration to get your optic running in a pinch. – Guns & Ammo Bo

  2. its the terminals inside the battery pack that get loose during alkaline battery leakage. They have a new one piece terminal that you replace in the battery pack.

I would only use lithiums in eotechs or any optic for that matter: longer life, 10 year shelf life, slightly lighter.

  3. triggertechtonik clearly doesnt use his brain and by the sound of his grammar he hasnt found his way out of the projects either. an ak shoots a significantly larger projectile = more knockdown power. Second, anyone who has compared and done their hw on the two will know that the ak simply has a more reliable operating system than the ar at a cheaper price. sounds to me like gecko thought his home defense out very carefully. triggertech is still using the unregistered gun his homie stole for him

  4. I hate to bother you but could you do me a huge favor and turn this sight around on your quad rail (I assume you have a quad rail) and see if it will fit over the rear leaf sight? I wanted to get one for my Saiga but I need to know if it will fit over the leaf sight. Thanks.

  5. I have a question… Would you not buy a car, for lets say $5000.00 because you think you shouldn't pay that price for something if you have to change the oil, or maintain matinence for it? Nothing is 100% reliable if its man made!

  6. did you get it back yet?…im about to purchase this at impact guns coz its on sale but i might change my mind…i think the issue is the battery terminals on the other end inside the casing…so far ive seen so many 512 having this problem and the new XPS fixed this issue

  7. Could be or if it is a rechargeable batt it may need its battery replaced. NiMH rechargeable batt only last about 2.5-4 years but I have seen those sites for anywhere from 450 to $800 so I think they should generally warranty things like that for longer len a year
