  1. Hey Sootch, over the past couple of years that I've gotten into AR's, I found that the hole for the detent pin and spring will accommodate a 4-40 tap. Then you can use a 4-40 allen screw, and never have to worry when you take the buffer tube off, ever again. You will have to cut the spring a little bit in order to depress the spring enough for the threads on the screw to ''catch''. And that's no big deal, if you use a pair of side cutters/ diagonal pliers. I'm sure a lot of AR guys out there have done this very thing.

  2. The only thing I dont care for is the ASAP attachment. Reason being for me is the jingling rattle noise that it gives off. Not a good idea if when you're trying to remain hidden. That can give away your position even if you have lets say a single point sling onto it. Maybe you can wrap it with some kind of tape or rubber dip it.

  3. Just wanted to follow up and see if your buffer tube is backing out since you went with the LockTite Red.  I finally went out and test fired my AR pistol after building it 9 months ago.  Buffer tube went loose, but luckily I did not lose anything.  Need to figure out a way to keep it put.

Thanks for sharing your information, truly appreciate it.

  4. Without your reddot sight how much does that weigh unloaded?  In Mass we have a 50oz limit on how heavy an AR pistol can be and I am trying to decide between the RRA 7in or the RRA 10in.

  5. I like this guy…
.lol,, mainly bc he shows his complications at end of ea clip.. As well all know our weapons, we can become complacent when easily distracted when attempting to video ourselves.  That buffer pin shooting straight up while unscrewing buffer tube is classic.. Yes, no matter how many times you tell these good folks what not to do (as im sure you knew yourself) we will never understand the importance of simple instructions until something like this happens to us. Especially, spending an hour looking for that damn thing or having to order another.. Good job

  6. so if i put a vertical grip on a "pistol" how will the atf know?…oh yeah they wont! man, i'd love to put some m16 (full auto) parts in my ar but i know they would be knocking on the door!…plus i know the local sheriff would never sign off to do a form 4!

  7. Great video, sootch00!!! I built a pistol lower with one of these beauties last week.  It's truly a work of art, isn't it!!  The fluting and knurled area are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.  It's almost a shame to cover it with anything… be it a foam cover, Sig brace, or paracord.
One point that is important with the RRA pistol tube:  you must use a quality end plate.  Many aftermarket end plates won't work because they are too thick and therefore won't allow the pistol tube to screw in far enough to retain the buffer retainer.  The Magpul ASAP is the safest bet due it's reliable MilSpec sizing (and it doesn't have the tab that must be filed down on most other end plates), plus the ambidextrous end plate works well for a single-point sling like commonly used on short barrel builds.

  8. I've tried liking AR pistols but I just can't. I can see how its nice to have something that small and light, but that buffer tube sticking out the back makes me gag. SBR it and put a stock but but AR's are just not meant to be pistols. The only exception to that are the cool .22 AR pistols that don't require a buffer tube.
