Vortex Spitfire 3x Review

Today we’re reviewing the Vortex Spitfire 3x Prism Scope. An advanced “red dot” replacer, this prism scope doesn’t rely on batteries only. It has an etched reticle, which enables you to keep shooting even if you happen to run out of battery power in the middle of a shoot or hunt. The reticle utilizes both green and red illumination so you can choose which you want to use. it features a retention wire for the adjustment caps so that you will never lose your adjustment caps ever again. The construction is superb, and the scope feels like a premium piece of technology. The reticle itself is designed with the 5.56mm cartridge in mind, and has drop reticles all the way out to 500 yards. However, all of these positive features are accompanied by a few dislikes, although moderate. The first dislike of mine concerns the short eye relief of the scope. Only 2.8 inches. That means that you have to get very close to the scope. If you were to use this scope on a higher caliber gun than an AR-15, the recoil may just leave you with a black eye! My second concern is with the weight of the scope. It’s pretty beefy. weighing in at 15.4oz as shown on the vortex website, this scope actually weighs more than the previous dedicated sniper scope I had setup on my AR beforehand. However, those small negatives of this scope are far overshadowed by the positive aspects of it. I give it a 9/10 Highly recommended!

  1. You say you don't like to get too close to the charging handle. A long time ago I was taught that getting close (with iron only back then) helped with accuracy, all else being equal. Thoughts? I ask because I'm on verge of buying Spit 3x. Also, is there a problem if I have the classic front sight "M-16" triangle (non-alterable, non-removable)?

  2. Awesome vid!Pro tip. Swap that one point sling for a 2 point. In the future when you start running a sidearm, you'll find transitioning much more comfortable. Plus when you have to drop the rifle grab a sidearm and run. The one point in that scenario will slap against your knees and it can be pretty painful

  3. The weight is inline with an acog. You’d be hard pressed to find a magnified prism optic or acog style for very much less than 14-15oz unless you went with the compact 3x trijicon but it’s still around 10oz so not much difference in the grand scheme of things

  4. So I realize you said that it's meant for a 5.56 round, that doesn't mean its just for that round right? You can use it for a 223 round? I have a stock smith and wesson mp15, could I keep the iron sight with the scope as well?

  5. Intro was little weird, but you covered topic well in this video. I wish for some more scope aim camera to see what is like aiming through. Good video, keep it up!
