This is a recently acquired Palmetto State Armory cold hammer forged barrel. I feel that this is one of the best values available today in CHF barrels, as it is feature packed, offering top notch FN manufacturing, chrome lining, and magnetic particle testing. It has a standard 1/7 twist and has M4 feed ramps. As most know, cold hammer forged barrels are very durable and well suited for weapons that will experience sustained fire. This barrel is rifled in the same factory that produces barrels for the US military’s M249 light machine gun.

The CHF process by FN is highly sought after compared to regular AR type barrels. The old wives tale that cold hammer forging causes stress in barrel is nonsense since all hammer forged barrels must be heat stress relieved just like all tool steels need to be heat treated before it can be used. FN tapers their rifling to eliminate the reduced accuracy loss from chrome lining which is proof why their CHF barrels out shoot most other brands of barrels. The method of tapering the rifling has been known since the US civil war to increase accuracy and this is seen in many military sniper rifles.
Just picked up there complete chf upper for $350.
I'm building an M4 style rifle from an Anderson upper and lower. How do you like this barrel since you owned it for over a year? Is it accurate with a variety of bullet weights?
How does the triangle cap work with regular hand guards?
Colt 6920's have FN made CHF barrels.
