We’ve tested the CMMG Mk3 DTR2 in 6.5 Creedmoor against moving targets from 200 to 600 yards. Time to slow down and see how well it shoots at 1,000 yards.

Gear we used in this shoot:
1. CMMG Mark 3 DTR2 in 6.5 Creedmoor
2. Bushnell HDMR 2 Rifle Scope:
3. Leapers UTG Recon Flex M-Lok Bipod:
4. Protektor Rear Bag:
5. Weaver Tactical Scope Rings:
6. Nikon Monarch 3000 Stabilized Rangefinder:

In this scenario Kedrick and I were shooting from the top of a crude oil storage tank toward a sheet of plywood 1,040 yards away in a corn field. Just beyond was a growing field of wheat, which made impact spotting difficult. We actually had to drive up twice to find out where we were hitting. Once we had a rough idea, we started consistently hitting the target just as daylight completely faded. Take note of my final five shots. The horizontal dispersion can be explained by wind. The vertical tightness, however, shows the consistency of the rifle and the ammunition. We were shooting my handloads: 140-grain Hornady BTHP Match Bullets launched by Alliant Reloder 16 and CCI BR-2 Benchrest Primers.

I am a huge fan of the Mk3. The combination of an AR-10 semiautomatic action, a heavy barrel, and a surprisingly effective muzzle brake add up to quick follow-up shots and the ability to see bullet impacts at long range. But it’s not just a quick rifle; it’s a precision rifle capable of shooting sub-half-MOA groups with my handloads.

I reviewed the Bushnell HDMR-II rifle scope months ago, and I highly recommend it. The Horus H59 reticle makes on-the-fly wind and drop adjustments easy and precise.

  1. ya gotta load the bipod and hold that trigger down longer until the recoils are over for any decent groups at that range. have fun, shoot safe

  2. You have a GREAT scope coming your way, the TRACT TORIC UHD 4-20x50mm. I mounted the TRACT TORIC on my UPR-10 in 6.5 Creedmoor. I owe a BIG thanks to West Desert Shooter who lead to the UPR-10 and to the TRACT TORIC UHD 4-20x50mm scope both a great combination together.

  3. I've had much better luck with this brass catcher:https://www.midwayusa.com/product/779085/caldwell-brass-catcher-ar-15-picatinny-rail-mount-nylon-mesh-black In case the link doesn't work it is the picatinny mount by caldwell. I have two.

In the meantime, you can drape a magazine (reading material, not rifle magazine) over the top of the scope to deflect the emptie downward into a tshirt or something so you don't have to hunt for them. A piece of cloth may work too. You just have to stretch it out far enough so that it doesn't stop the brass in the port.

  4. Good shooting Kyle! I've found that with the bag..shoot a few..and take them out. Try to keep the opening a bit high over the ejection port..as the brass tends to start out going high. I use one one my LR-.308..and my others..works well.

  5. Good Job ! I was skeptical of that bipod it appeared to be too rigid cos many prefer some horizontal play (myself included) but it seems to have proved itself in you hands. Nice shooting guys!

  6. Great video man! I'm impressed. That was fun. It's also interesting to see the difference between where it looks like the shots are going from a thousand yards away versus where they were actually going. That's such a cool rifle. It's very "smooth."

  7. Looks like a fun shooing day! You should make your own shot N see targets. I made mine with a large sheet of cardboard with neon green posters spray glued to it. Then I put a single layer clear box tape over it and used flat black spray paint to coat it. It worked great

  8. Excellent video ! Would love to do that all day every day ! On an unrelated subject, you spoke of hog hunting . Are those hogs eatable ? Some of the videos of hog hunters I've seen ,those guys must have meat lockers with tons of pork in them . Can't wait to see the one mile shoot.
