– This little LED Lantern from Streamlight is awesome!! 🙂 There are only 2 changes I would like to see made to this lantern to make it even better:

1) Add a White SOS mode in the brightest setting for more visible signaling
2) From Off: Press Once to turn lantern on White and Press/Hold to turn lantern on Red – (It needs the ability to initially select White or Red from the Off position)

  1. I just ordered one of these, including shipping and exchange rate from Amazon it cost me about $60 AUD to Australia. I see the settings could be a bit annoying, it should at least come on the last brightness setting you had it on or start with lowest setting first so you don't startle your eyes and preferably either have a separate button or easy access for the red sos given it's basically the most important setting in the case of an emergency. Great review 🐸

  2. thanks for the review. was looking for a lantern for camping. i might get the smaller version of the seige. Quick question though: why don't you ever show your face on any of your videos? sorry if it's a weird question but its obvious you took time to make sure your face was hidden in all your video. some people would really like to have a face to match with your nice voice! 😉 Anyway. Thanks & Subscribed!

  3. These lights are obsolete….You need to check out the lights on Amazon called SUBOOS Ultimate Rechargeable LED Lantern….I recently purchased one of these and am very pleased with it.

  4. FYI, Red does preserve your night vision over white light, look at WWII submarine warfare, lookouts used red lights prior to going to the bridge at night. And I think this was a good review, nice lantern.

  5. very excellent review thanks so much!! I'm torn between this and the UST 60.  really like the features this has, especially taking the globe part off and hanging upside down.

  6. First let me say, that was the best review I have seen yet, on this lantern. Well done. I have been looking for a camping and home emergency lantern but I am picky in what I want and need. I really love this lantern so I am going to get one. Thanks a lot for the great review, it really helped. Keep the videos coming.

  7. At that price point I'm practically compelled to get one. As well as the red, I wish it had a green light if for no other reason than at least for the SOS code for emergency situations. Green light throws farther and stands out better. So, if you're on a boat fishing at night and something happens, like your running lights go out, you'll be more easily seen with the green light. If you had to go on a late night firewood trek while camping, you could leave the green light on at camp and more easily find your way back. Regardless, this looks like a great compact light. I'll definitely be getting one for the boat and camping and other general purposes. Thanks for the great review!

  8. great review! I have been looking at these for a while, and I think you sold me on it. by any chance have you had any experience with the Rayovac Sportsman LED Lantern (SE3DLN) ? it is a little cheaper, just wondering how the compare.

  9. Believe it or not, I have an old Rayovac Sportsman 360 twin tube flourecent lantern
that still works. No, I don't load it full of those square lantern batteries. I put a cigar
lighter plug on it and run it off a jump starter pack from Sportsman's Guide. It
runs a long time off that thing. 'Course, that's when I'm home. Camping…guess I
should look into Streamlight…those are much easier to pack and haul along
than that old "flour tube" lamp and battery pack. Thanks, Falia(8-).

  10. This is indeed a nice unit. Thanks for review, but I have to point out a CRITICAL DESIGN FLAW of the SOS mode:

A single red led is great for low level illumination. Using red light preserves human night vision best.

BUT it is a TERRIBLE choice for a rescue signal.

    1. Red light has the shortest wavelength, therefore is not visible from distances. Green/white light at equivalent power is visible from more than THREE TIMES the distance as red. Ask any navy man why the ship uses red deck lights in night battle. It is about preserving stealth as much as night vision.

    2. On this unit, the red source is a single low power LED, where the white has four of them. For rescue, brighter is better.

So, while I'd like to own this lantern for it's generally utility, I really think the SOS emergency mode should be available using the white lights. After all, if you need rescue, you are not going trying to be stealthy!
