Vietnam Veteran Says I Am Wrong About AR-15s

Somebody emailed me and said I didn’t know what I was talking about.

So in this video, I break down exactly why my original take on the AR-15 vs M4 debate was correct, why the attempted correction completely falls apart, and how this kind of confusion is exactly what both anti-gun activists and careless gun owners rely on to muddy the conversation around the Second Amendment.

(NOSLER — official ammunition partner)

The original issue started with testimony supporting House Bill 3655, where a veteran claimed that the AR-15 is more powerful than the standard military issue M4 assault rifle. I explained why that claim was factually wrong. Then I got an email accusing me of spreading “two falsehoods” — first, that the AR-15 is semiautomatic only, and second, that civilians are restricted from getting an M4. This video answers both of those claims directly.

I walk through the difference between a modern civilian AR-15 and early military prototypes like the Colt AR-15 Model 601, why the existence of a 1962 select-fire rifle does not change what the AR-15 is in today’s political and legal debate, and why people keep using historical technicalities to confuse a very simple issue. I also explain the legal reality behind FFLs, Class III SOTs, dealer samples, the Hughes Amendment, and why the M4 was never part of the transferable civilian machine gun registry in the first place.

More importantly, this video gets into the bigger problem: using emotional testimony, military service, or partial research as a substitute for factual accuracy. Respect for a veteran’s trauma is real. But trauma does not make a bad argument true, and veteran status does not override firearm history, gun law, or basic logic.

If you’ve been following the debate over House Bill 3655, the AR-15 vs M4 comparison, civilian ownership of military-style rifles, machine gun laws, or how bad facts get turned into bad gun policy, this video lays it out clearly.

  1. Every time I hear someone claim their experience makes them an expert end of story…. I am hearing a fool. Even if I could purchase and own a fully automatic firearm I probably wouldn't. I can barely afford to feed my semi autos as it is.

  2. This is what pisses me off

The anti gun club using ignorant veterans to push their agenda.

Those veterans that are against the 2nd admidment are OATH BREAKERS. Period

Which can be punishable by death

People think every one in the military knows and gets to shoot guns. Wrong again

  3. saying one gun is more powerful than the other, when they shoot the same cartridge, is beyond ignorant!! You could make an argument about one being more capable if it could fire more rounds per minute. It wouldn't be the semi-auto. If both guns are semi-auto? I don't know much about the m4. Then it would just come down to how fast you could pull the trigger repeatedly, but that doesn't equate to power!! I wander if this guy was senile? And if so, they should be ashamed of themselves!

  4. The veterans argument against you is definitely wrong but it seems almost like it was designed. Are you sure he wasn't just hired by the party? Cause I find it hard to believe this veteran actually believes the words that were coming out of his own mouth…

  5. Just checked my AR-15 to be sure. Still semi-auto only. I don't own an M4 because that's a Military/LE only weapon platform in the US (unless you have a Class III weapons manufacturing license).

  6. The ar 15 armalite 15 was invented by Eugene stoner for CIVILIAN USE, and later adopted/transformed into the full auto m4 for the millitary, YES CIVILIANS HAD IT BEFORE THE MILLITARY LIKE IT ALWAYS SHOULD BE

  7. many, if not most cops and vets are not gun guys. and thats not a bad thing. I like to ride in airplanes, but I am not a plane guy, I do not believe lift by low pressure atop a wing is what makes a plane fly. so I should not testify in court about planes.

  8. A 556 or 223 is a high powered 22 at best.
The new AR-15 later designated as the m-16.
Started in Vietnam in 1961, this rifle killed more Americans in the war than anything else.
Because of jam's & failure to feed, cycling issues & failure to fire.
In 1964 the US government had so many complaints & soldiers scared of the rifle the updated it & started providing cleaning kits & oil.
Training on teardown cleaning, oiling were mandatory.
AK were widely used as a reliable substitute by special forces Rangers & anyone who could choose there own rifles.
I always love to hear about the great new AR/M16 that required no maintenance & ran forever.
Untested in a jungle until 1961. Where it failed miserably & we just covered all this up & the death's of all the soldiers holding a jammed rifle in there hands when killed.
Really sad how the actual facts are swept under the rug.
