It’s ironic because it’s a communist state but the state of New York you can hunt with any caliber as long as it’s center fire, meaning you can so hunt with an AR-15, this being said it must be limited to 5 rounds in its magazine and must be “compliant” DEC legit says any center fired caliber. So technically I could hunt deer with .380 ACP, but we all know we want results so bump it up to 75 BTHP 5.56, it’s enough for white tail
