What bench is that with the t track?
@FClassJohn, What brand of T-Track on the table in the video? Brand and source please. Thanks!
So i have used this vice for right at a year now, and i have found a few things that make it work better. When i first got it, i almost put it in the box and got rid of it because i couldn't get it tight, and i had a gun fall over. After that i realized i could tighten the tension with the 4 small set screws, even with the main knob loose, it had tension. That helped a lot, but i also just couldnt get it as tight as i wanted at times. So one night i put some grease on the threads of the main tension knob and on the ID of it, that was a game changer with allowing me to tighten the vise where i could easily clean guns and work on guns without the vise trying to move on me. I love this vise, and it lives on my bench most of the time. I have it on the inline fab system so i can swap it out with a regular bench vise or my barrel vise. The only issue i had was the arca slot is to deep and my MPA matrix pro chassis wont clamp in it so i mounted a arca clamp to a piece of aluminum and clamp it in the vise when i work on that gun. Most other guns work just fine with this vise.
What work bench are you using?
EVERYONE NOT SHOWING THE VISE IN WORK LIKE TRYING TO KEEP A BARREL FROM NOT TWISTING WHILE TORQUING DOWN
Great video. Thx for your insight on this. I have been looking for another set of hands to help with cleaning and maintenance & this looks sweet! Tipton makes quality products @ a reasonable price. I would like to see vertical demos showing the vice at work.
I purchased this vice and regret doing so. Despite the review the ball lock is weak even when the knob is tightened to the point of hurting your hand. Any scoped rifle of any real weight will easily flop over under moderate torque. Also, unlike the Real Avid vice there is no way to make minor adjustments for leveling, making leveling your mount/rifle/scope madening, ie. floping over. The Tipton is simply not robust enough. Don't care about the price point if it's not up to the task. And forget about torqueing anything in the Tipton vice, the ball clamp just gives way, read flops over. I highly doubt a rifle the weight of an F Class was leveled and had the scope mounted using the Tipton vice. The way Real Avid segments the sale charging for every component is anoying but at least it works well for both scope leveling and torqing tasks. Save your money don't buy the Tipton. I'm quite disapointed with this review, I've always appreciated this content creator and have made several purchases based on his evaluations. He has reviewed both the Howard's and Real Avid vices and both those would work leveling or barreling a rifle. This review/ recommendation simply just does not even remotely comport with my experience with the Tipton vice. I almost never leave a negative comment but felt compelled to spare others wasting their hard earned money.
Went to academy yesterday and pulled the trigger. Opened the box and based was cracked in 2 pieces. I returned it and they gave me another which has a warped worm gear. After working it is a little smoother but binds. I wondered if your vise was tight to open / binding when first using?
Is it pretty sturdy if it's not mounted?
3:31 that looks like a really crappy grub screw with plastic handle that thing isn’t gonna last.. they should’ve at least made that knurled aluminum with a small rod through it. Just looks cheap. The spindle is so small that thing isn’t gonna have hardly any clamping force.
Have a Tipton Ultra with legs so versatile, but it’s not a barrel vise. Been looking at similar style vises to the 360 and you may have made up my mind …..so let me ask, “if you were to own just one barrel vise, would you recommend the 360?” Getting ready to ‘pull the trigger’ (pun) on one. TIA.
Gavin where do I buy the mounting board with channel. Ty
One frustration with Gavin is that he never reviews anything he dislikes. It’s hard to find him impartial, rarely says anything negative which makes me suspect. If you review anything please call the good and bad and if it’s not a good product please say so. Gavin doesn’t and I’d hate to see you fall into that habit with him.
Looks great. I went with a proper bench vice that has a cutout for pipe on the bottom. Great for changing barrels and just about anything I need a vice for.
I prefer the Real Avid version that has locking pins if you really need the Vice to lock in place. I’ve been using the Real Avid one for about a year now and have not gotten any grease on m at all. I will admit that I was concerned about that. Also, the Real Avid ones have all sorts of edge covers that do all sorts of jobs.
Ok John I love what you bring to us on your channel. I also saw you on Gavin’s channel and I will be curious to see what the fit will be . I hope you’re not dropping all the FClass content and .22 BR . Might just be me but I think the two channels are way different in content. Wish you the best what ever you do .If you need a helper at the big matches just drop me a line and I will be your caddy lol
Welcome to Gavin tube.
Well, this channel has become a waste of time now.
Taking about free products that he will never use.
Damn shame !
Do you think that honeycomb insert would be able to hold barrel or barreled action?
👍👍👍
I saw you on ultimate reloader, is this the end of this channel? I hope not. Would be fun to see you try prs tho.
The all metal body is really nice and a fair price point and that’s official website price so who know maybe cheaper elsewhere
Thanks FCJ. I've been looking at these but apparently I was waiting for your stamp of approval. 😂
Tipton or real avid? Which would you choose. Going to buy one or the other but need to know if real avid price and features outweigh tipton.
