Piece of total crap The M16 model of this rifle killed so many of our soldiers it jammed constantly it was very hard to keep clean the magizine was short only held 15 -20 rounds The bolt group was a disaster it was made of aluminum which expanded when over heated thus jamming up The ammo used in the field was the wrong kind for this rifle bad grade of powder. Many many soldiers left this rifle back in the rear took M14s or used AK-47s to go on patrols. AK-47was and IS far superior weapon compared to this garbage rifle! Its easier to disassemble easier to clean more robust you can drop it in mud water gets dusty STILL fires M16 was a terrible rifle lost it's credibility as a reliable combat rifle soldiers lost trust of it It ended up with a really bad reputation! Navy Seal teams hated it refused to fight with it same thing with the Green Berets both groups preferred AK 47s Stoner rifles or personal owned weapons!
Even after all of it's up grades modifications improvements M16A1 still had a "bad rap" Old combat infantry had little respect for this rifle.Still preferred M14 M60 M1911A3 shotguns
Why does everyone get mad when somebody says Mattel made that, what is wrong with Mattel? They made hot wheels $&ck off! So what if they made guns they’re probably good at it. Glock used to make shower curtain rods they’re good! Stop the backlash SO WHAT if they did or didn’t the point is the AR platform works nice and it’s awesome!!!!! All rifles are good until they don’t work, then it hurts. They’re ment to be cared for, and passed down.
It's got the classic Korea feel. My grandpa would love this. I'll show it to him to see what he thinks. He was Coast Guard, but I'm sure he'd appreciate it!
My basic training Rifle was a early pattern M-16, no bolt forward assist. No protection for the magazine release. 3 prong flash hider. And that was in 1990 (Ft. Dix N.J.)
My family has in a trust one with SP double digit serial number. My Ompa worked with the team on the civilian AR and was gifted this. Our NRA museum was flabbergasted when we sent it to get authenticated. So fortunate to have shot this in the 90s.
My rifle in Basic Training was a refurbished M16E1, that was back in 1974. New upper, lower marked M16E1. I wonder how many A1 and A2’s are in Depot storage?
An interesting piece of history you are holding. I still wonder if things turned out better had the British 7mm ammo and FN FAL been adopted instead of the 7.62mm and M14 rifle.
I know a guy ebo has one of those …only short barrel and 30 round mag…. awesome with a can on it …and will scare the living shit out of any one…..the short barrel shoots out a ball of fire and sound about 3 times as loud . . Its awesome of you know you k ow of notnyour definalty not expecting it … this one you can lock the action from moving back so it's quite with a good can small easy to move easy to have on your 4 wheeler…..
My toy one when I was 6…was that type…on the package it was called…M16. Vietnam was in full swing and Walter reviewed it every night on the News…and I wanted in
So folks got me a Toy M16..with spring wack it rattle auto fire….it was Awesome 😎
Here in Connecticut, we used to have many gun manufacturers. Now the politicians would love nothing more than to kick down our doors and take all of our guns.
Looks like the rifles we used in the AF to qualify on in the 1990s. I remember the OD furniture and the 3 prong flash hider. I asked and the armorer told me they were Vietnam era rifles used only for training and yearly qualifications.
I had a " rubber duckie" colt training rifle like this it was heave duty hard rubber/ plastic. Did not have green forend but a kickass replica for training same weight and shape exactly, you could attach bayonet. They had real barrels integrated into them I suppose that was so the bayonets locked in place perfectly and some other reasons I'm sure, but not sure as to all reasons. Colt stamped on the side of receiver just as this rifle , I had it until stolen from my house when the local foil heads struck that one of countless times I've been robbed. But the time I'm waiting inside on them WITH 12 GAUGE.and they think no ones home and they enter it's going to be POINT BLANK, history of epic proportions just the look on their face and then the NO FACE AT ALL= PRICELESS….
Wow it is still a nice piece! I. Not a fan of the AR platform or M16 but I am however a fan of the select fire options. AK-47= PERFECTION ✓ YOU CANNOT STOP AN AK MUD DIRT SAND, SNOW WATER , TANKS DOWSNTATTER IT WILL RUN WITHOUT A HITCH, DROP A COUPLE GRANULES OF SAND IN THERE AND YOUR JAMMED. GOTTA STOP EVERY TIME YOU CAN AND CLEAN WEAPON ( NOT PRACTICAL) OR SAFE. GOUR LIFE EXPECTANCY NOT VERY LONG ATALL

I carried a green Colt in the USAF. I drew it every night on the graveyard shift 301 SPS SAC.
We called them our Mattel's.
Nice
You could place the camera a bit further and capture the whole riifle for once. 😅
The handguard collor (green) makes this model 01 looks more cooler than other features in this gun…no wonder all guns collector want it.
Forward assist made a big difference on jamming rounds

I have a early model AR-15 Sysco ArmaLite on the magazines in their 20 round waffle magazines
Junk
Yummy waffle magazines
The green furniture would’ve blended in pretty well with the Vietnamese jungles if it wasn’t so shiny.
I kove the green
Spent many a night in the armory cleaning the early chrome bolt models.

Who the fuck thought the triangular charging handle was a good idea

Anybody know what a COLT MATCH RIFLE..is worth? There's no Flash supressor, the Stock holds the cleaning kit..& fiberglass barrel protectors. Thanks
The three prong muzzle was intended as a way to defeat barbed wire.

WOW! TANX!
A lot of young Young Marines paid for those improvements with their lives

The absolute first grenadier barrel
We still had these in the CG back in '06.

Interesting for collectors only. Nobody outside of a collector should have a gun like this. Disabled of course
They could even be made fully auto with a paper clip
its perfect

Very interesting… I wonder when Palmetto State Armory is gonna make a new version of this rifle
i think we shouldn’t adopt anything like this. the 5.56 will hit the brush and veer off target. the plastic won’t hold up. what a disaster
That sure is a gorgeous lady

My 1st M-16 was Mattel at fort dix 1970
And its extremely garbage
You got to have a reliable gun when you are shooting kids in Vietnam😂😂
Read the book, "Missed,:
Simply GORGEOUS
you said…
FEATURES?😮
