What’s old is cool again! Despite the vast array of AR-15 stocks of all shapes and styles currently available, Caleb gets back to basics with the Retro Carbine Stock from B5 Systems. The RCS replicates the look of the collapsible (adjustable) buttstock found on CAR-15 XM177 carbines from the 1960s and early M4 Carbines. Original carbine stocks in good condition are scarce as hen’s teeth these days. B5 has done a great service to folks who like to build AR-15s with the looks of previous eras using Brownells Retro Rifle™ parts. Maybe you have an older carbine whose stock is broken or you just don’t want to subject the scarce original to the wear-and-tear of shooting the rifle. Or maybe you just want the lightest, most compact stock you can put on your rifle. Either way, swap on a Retro Carbine Stock, and you’re good to go!
The Retro Carbine Stock is made of modern lightweight reinforced polymer, so it’s as tough as any current-production AR stock. Just like the originals, its feature set is fairly limited. It has the correct molded texturing on the buttplate, a sling loop on top and a sling slot under the buffer tube area, and the standard spring-loaded adjustment lever. Correct for early carbine stocks, it does not have the reinforcement ribbing on the sides like later M4 carbine stocks.

My original SP-1 CAR has an aluminum stock with some plastic-like black coating.
Polymer wasn’t really a big thing back then. It rattles like hell though so I replaced it with an old mil-surp full buttstock and love the solid feel.
Please start selling the entire retro line! I deeply regret not getting one of the CAR15’s.
I have the aluminum version on my URG-I. Balanced things out perfectly, especially with an LPVO and suppressor. To be honest, I don't know why they have the waffle.

Kinda hoping it'd be the rubberized aluminum stock.
I do believe the originals that came on issued guns were aluminum, but i could be remembering it wrong.

Oomph. Another AR Product Spotlight? Not only a retro addition, but we couldn't improve on it. It is what it is…, a stock.
What's "retro" about that? That's what came on my Colt and it's still pristine. The stock on the Colt before that one didn't move at all, so it's still new tech to me! It doesn't get out much anymore (kinda like me!).

Kind of an odd product spotlight considering Brownells has been slowly discontinuing their retro line. What a shame, these stocks among Brownells other retro offerings were all quite nice for the money.
Are the inner dimensions any tighter for a snugger fit on the receiver extension or still have the “retro rattle”? Thank you

Do they have the rest of the furniture in matching color polymer? A set would be nice the handgrip or forearm, two piece with heat shields inside.

i have the retro-retro one an acetate coated metal one.
Do those have play while on the receiver extension? Or are those retro stocks tight like a SOPMOD stock? My FN gi stock has a bit. Not terrible though.

Looks like the stuff which comes with the cheapest ARs and which most people intermediately replace. Not sure why so many AR manufactures are using this B5 stuff. Must be the price.
It would be nice if Brownells reintroduced their line of retro Upper and Lower receivers as well.
