What are some ways to easily put these handguards on? The M16A1 hand guards are not as easy to out on compared to the A2 hand guards. This has to do with the flat delta ring on the A1. The A2 has a conical type delta ring which makes It easier. Ben at MB Defense Solutions figured out a way to make it easier to out these A1 hand guards on.
In 1964, the United States Army and United States Air Force adopted the M16 to replace the M14 battle rifle. The M16 has a vast history; it first served with U.S. troops in Vietnam and saw action with other allied and NATO forces globally. Adversaries used the M16 as well, when captured. The M16A1 was an improved M16, and the M16A2 was an improvement from that. The M4 and M4A1 were carbines that spawned from the M16 and had seen action during close quarters combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. Today, 58 years later, the U.S. has adopted the Sig XM5 and has started phasing out the M4 and M16A2.
For a span of around 60 years, the M16 and its variants have had a long history of serving with many nations to include the Canada, Malaysia, Israel, South Korea, South Vietnam, the U.S. and many many more. It’s sad to see a historic relic not in it’s original form like this and the next step is to get it range ready.

Never had that problem with my A1 during my army days.
I’ve got a Windham Weaponry “Government Model A1” now – which is actually a hybrid of the A1 and the A2 – that I’ve never seen even bothered with removing the handguards. No need. It’s not like I’m dragging it through the dirt or anything like that.
Those triangular handguards are the way to go for both appearance and comfort, IMHO. Wouldn’t have anything else.
Yo! So you take it off the same way I imagine 🤔? As in, pushing down the Delta Ring and the taking the Heat guard off?
Thanks
That's not torque.
I do one side then the other. Class of 1972. Why complicate crap? The only thing we had back then was our cleaning kit. If not in combat, you didnt have ammo to use for improvised things.
Easy Pesy and yes i own what i carried.
Don’t worry soldier, with god anything is possible
Try hitting it with your purse
Need to strengthen your sissy hands if you can't get it by hand.
Put both the hand guards in the spring ring and push down then insert them into the stationary ring.
Then you have no business owning an AR lol
*leverage
Nooooooooo ding dong we dont use hard tools like that on our firearms. If your little nip nop fingies cant function the rifle as designed then you need to train with it or put it down! Dont marr it up because youre inept and impatient
Sorry to all you Tactical Timmy's out there but ain't nobody call those a 'delta ring assembly'
I remember the first time holding a M16A1, I thought it felt like a toy compared to the 30-06 rifle I had at home.
Last time I checked, torque involved something that rotated or spun.
Yo those RAS A4 handgaurds will strip you or your man hood trying to put them back on
Getting them on is easy, getting the SOBs off is another story.
That’s what she said
You actually did it backward, put the rear tabs in the ring, and then press down on the guard until the forward tabs go under the forward retainer.
I used to put the lower receiver on first. Somehow that gave it stability and made it easier to hold those rings down.
I could reassemble the rifle in less than two minutes blindfolded.
Definitely don’t smack it by the buttock like you’re clearing a double feed like I did as a private.
Had one of these on my basic training. I used to install them vice versa. Insert the grip into the base ring, pull down the grip and it snaps right inside the front hold
Will the A1 hand guard fit on an A2?
Or you just use the proper tool
Ahh yes, the torquing punch, I have several of those in my own toolbox
Grow a set of testicles or ask your grandma to do it for you
One guard at a time dip schlitz
God I want an m16 with the A1 grip, no medium powered rifle is hotter then that
Am I the only one who is a sucker for the A1 style hand guards?
answer: g y m
Put in one side handguard and then the other. That's the easy way to do it.
Not strong enough? SUCK IT UP NANCY!
I purchased one of earliest we called M-15 semi autos for civilians.
Damn thing still a runner but changed colt barrels' wrong twist for a 1-8 twist years ago.
Had to register it by Washington law in early 1970s nd today I must put political barrel back on as WA state let me "Grandfather it" but must be original
Now weapon is illegal for sale or trade as are parts and magazines.
They did not outlaw older sales but only person I can give it to is a direct blood relative.
Both he and I have registered it again and paid fee for transfer come my death.
Not preb registered by anyone from now on cannot loan, so if I do not register gun belongs to WA STATE AT MY DEMISE.
"What if im not strong enough to do it by hand?" Ask your dad 😂
I want an a1 upper bad
I bet those handguards filled up with tons of mud and shit back in the Nam days
It wouldn't be torque it would be called leverage
Cleaning rods work well
My favorite handguard
Cleaning rod. Field expedient.
We used to put the bottom on first, then push down and squeeze… They are still all pieces of crap. I broke one in half once. Saw the flipping tracers ricochet off of rain drops… Fudge! Give me 7.62 any day. That stuff bounces off nothing!
One at a time, and you won't need any tools.
Why don't you put them in one at a time. That's how we did it in the army.
