The windage turret crapped out on me, so the scope is going back to GPO.
Here are some parting thoughts on the GPO Centuri 4-16×44 Super Short.
Overall, in terms of optical performance, I was very impressed with what I saw given that the scope is less than 10″ long and costs $600.
Eye relief was relatively short at a hair under 3″, but apparent FOV was veyr good and the widest in this group.
Reticle illumination the way GPO does it is very nicely executed with very good dynamic range and no bleed over.
Given how short the scope is, it is at its best on rifles that encourage tall mounts, so I thought it was an excellent setup for an accurate AR-15.
Because of the wide FOV, while it is not ideal with clip-ons, given the 4x low end magnification, it is surprisingly workable. I tested with Steiner C35 Gen2 and it worked pretty well. You loose some FOV, but it is manageable.
It would be better with a 50mm lens thermal clip-on and it did indeed match up somewhat more nicely with the first gen Burris BTC50 I have.
The reticle is workable, but not quite up to modern standards. It could use some additional granularity near the center and a few numbers, so you do not have to count hashmarks all the time.
On the positive side, they brought the thick bars a lot closer to the center than most people do, which, I think, is the right move for anything other than dedicated match scopes. Thin lines were sized well to give you good performance across the mag range.
They do have a tree reticle coming up in this scope, which will be interesting to see. I have a feeling I’ll be revisiting this design in the future again.
