As issued to any general " troops", probably the A4 despite all the greatness of the A1. With "M-16" I am not considered the carbines, but I'd take a 20" barrel by preference for most things anyway. Before I got sick and had to liquidate everything for medical and living expenses , I spent a lot of time with a 20" 1/8 teist 416 stainless Hbar ar-15 setup. This time included when I lived in the woods for three months and I carried it everywhere for 10+ hours at a time in dense forest and swamps overgrown with tag alders. Despite having an M4 type carbine, I kept grabbing the rifle. I had a car-15 stock, h buffer, Rock River arms non adjustable 4.5 pound 2 stage trigger (2 on The uptake and 2.5 on the wall), Arms #40L rear buis, fixed front sight with a tritium fiberoptic post that was high enough to offset the Non Fmarked tower, extended feed ramps and M4 upper , daniel defense Omega X rail and ergo grip, troy industries qd sling mount amd castle nut retainer and a troy single point sling. Also a Magpul enhanced trigger guard. I swapped back and forth between an eotech 552 , a Bushnell T dot (acog lookalike but it was actually decent for the price ) and a Simmons fixed 4x pro diamond slug gun scope ( best budget optic ever) . The changes i'd make are a more vertical pistol grip for extended low ready carry ,a two point sling for some situations and different barrel steel (410/411/416R/LW50 ) . I'd absolutely reproduce that set-up if I can ever make it happen.
