Tomorrow, the House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on legislation to track the purchases of law-abiding gunowners. HB 45 would require the distribution and use of a new credit card “merchant category code” (MCC) that specifically identifies businesses selling firearms and ammunition. Please contact committee members using the Take Action button below and ask them to oppose HB 45!
House Bill 45: Collecting firearm retailer financial transaction data amounts to surveillance and registration of law-abiding gun owners. Federal law contains multiple restrictions on the creation of a national firearms registry and the creation of this MCC should be perceived as an attempt to circumvent those restrictions.
