A tutorial covering the basic operation of the AR-15 rifle for the complete novice. We cover procedures for safely loading, unloading, and firing the AR-15, as well as all the basic controls on the rifle. The original version of this video was the most popular installment of our Shooting 101 series, but was arbitrarily removed by YouTube in 2024, so here’s a new version!

3 march 2025. Trump has fired more veterans and police than anyone in American history. Not a single member of the trump family has ever served in any capacity in the military 🇺🇲. Also, great video. Fundamentals are key
It's a shame that youtube's silly policies forced you to remake this video. But then again, its more videos from this channel that I can watch so I guess that is ok.
Just subscribed! Thank you for all you do for progressive firearm owners, we will always support you.
Well this is an easy subscribe. So glad I stumbled upon your channel!
Wish I had his video a few years ago. Baker is so good at straight forward, concise instruction with a warm and unintimidating delivery. No political bs, no “I’m an operator” grift, just friendly and helpful.

Love the content. I do make it a habit to check the safety selector FIRST in the order of operations when i puck up my rifle.
Great video Chris!!
Great info! Being a new AR shooter I find this helpful.
Great job going over the basics, we definitely want all new to this, to start off on the right foot.
I just bought my first AR last weekend so I am going to assume you made this video just for me lol
Excellent tutorial for beginners and seasoned shooters alike.
Great video on AR basics! 👍🏻 An updated AR15 101 has been needed for awhile.
Many thanks for this Chris, wonderful presentation for newcomers. Your manner is always approachable and easy to understand. A valuable resource
Thank you for guiding the quiet kids like me.
Great demo! Thank you so much!!
What is the name and model of this AR?
Outstanding video, thank you.
I like this guy's content. But, idk… Knoxville is Communist and a wannabe nowhere Hellhole. And, well, that virus spreads… So, is he inoculated?
“…you’re going to feel silly and that is no good.”
Preach brother, preach.
So glad to have another update!
Nicely done.
7:23 Please note that the AR-15 has a floating firing pin and no firing pin block, so can discharge when you let the bolt go. I had this happen once with some soft-primered 6.5 Grendel ammo. Fortunately, the rifle was at a range pointed at a berm.
Whoever writes your videos does a phenomenal job of spelling out each step in plain language. Thank you.
I’m pretty sure that this information is taught in preschool in the US. Lol
I’ve definitely used the forward assist. Did a 1000 round class that involved a lot of moving around prone in dirt. Got the bolt gummed up and the FA came into play.
23 years in the Air Force, but it is always good to review basics! May the Lord bless you. Shalom.
Best communication style in the game. As always, well done Chris. And thank you for not using background music.
I had the old How to Use an AR-15 in a playlist but could not find it thinking YouTube removed it. I am so glad that this was not the case and we got an updated version of the video.
This video is great for beginners to learn to use these rifles. And for those who have been shooting them since 1975 it's great for sleeping. 🤪
Lucky Gunner: “Hello gun-curious friend! I hope you’ll invite me to treat you with respect, and not talk down to you while explaining firearms and their use.”
Also Lucky Gunner: “Here’s the best mid 19th century S&W micro frame .38 special detective revolver for competing in a range drill designed to most closely mimic the Miami shootout.”
Like he said, red OR green. If you buy a red dot or eotech that can be swapped from red to green, you have a fake or really crappy optic.
I'm not saying to buy an eotech for your first budget Ar15, but don't buy trash. Start out with a $200 holosun or sig romeo 5 if you really don't want to buy a mid tier optic $400+. But, knowing i like guns, i wish i would've just saved up and bought the quality stuff off the bat (even if i had to save a few more months). I have a dozen holosuns and other budget dots just sitting in a big box full of other crappy or budget parts that I've changed out with nicer, more quality products
Shared with friends. Chris you are a very articulate and thorough instructor. Love all your vids ❤
