I strongly considered naming the video “Listen to Me Have 12 Heart Attacks in a Row!” 😂
This was my first PCSL (Practical Competition Shooting League) match ever so why not jump into the deep end and make my first match the National Championship? I’ve gotta say, I’m hooked. The stages are more complex, and when you add a rifle to the mix, everything gets more interesting. I feel like I get MORE out of the matches too. Most USPSA major matches will have you out of town for several days for a grand total of 6-ish minutes of actual trigger time averaging 20 seconds per stage. At PCSL Nats, most stage times were about double that. Twice as much shooting with double the guns, and that’s my kind of math.
I also got the opportunity to work as staff for the match, and it was very refreshing to work with a set of rules that actually makes sense. For example, they allow VIDEO REVIEW for scoring/penalty calls, unlike USPSA. Also, the staff treats you like an adult and you don’t really have to worry about being DQ’d or penalized for some arbitrary rule thought up by a board of Fudds. Overall, it feels like a much more relaxed environment that encourages shooters to collaborate, mingle, and experiment.
For this match, I ran my ususal S&W M&P Competitor with a Chinasun 507comp. Years ago, I bought a Cobalt Kinetics BAMF and this was the first opportunity I’ve really had to put it to the test in the firey cauldron of competiton. While I know there are better custom built AR-15s out there, this has got to be the best option for out-of-the-box performance I’ve found so far. I have made no modifications to the rifle besides slapping on an LPVO and an offset red dot. You can quite literally take this gun out of the box and go shoot a season of matches and not have to worry about anything. No, I’m not sponsored by them. Yes, I am a Cobalt dealer. And yes, I have tried my best to break this rifle to no avail. IT. JUST. RUNS.
If you think there’s a better rifle build out there, let me know.
