NRA-ILA | Maine: Prepare for Progressives to Attack Your Hunting Rights

While 2024 may be winding down now, the 2025 legislative session is about to heat up, and radical anti-gun progressive politicians are already planning new ways to strip you of your fundamental rights.

In 2025, NRA members can expect to see more tired retreads of failed gun-control policies of the past. This includes, but is not limited to, bans on commonly owned firearms and firearm parts, Red Flag laws, and permitting frivolous lawsuits that would shutter Maine’s firearm economy. While these failed bills of yesteryear come as no surprise, there are reports that these rabid anti-gun lawmakers have a new target in their sights: your hunting rights

In the coming weeks, these Bloomberg-backed, Portland-based politicians will unveil their 2025 agenda, which includes significant legislation to reduce and, in some instances, eliminate Maine’s proud hunting heritage and culture.

While these Bloomberg-backed political figures desperately attempt to pass anti-gun and anti-hunting legislation in the Pine Tree State, they may have a major issue. Maine has over 200,000 hunting license holders, which provides over $307,000,000 in annual economic impact. Restricting hunting rights would be felt from Kittery to Fort Kent, with rural economies throughout the state being hit the hardest. Instead of finding new ways to arbitrarily restrict hunting rights in Maine, lawmakers would be better served by increasing, not limiting, hunting access.

If the facts alone do not sway these lawmakers, their constituents will. A recent NRA study highlights that the highest density of Maine hunters resides in many of the state’s tightest political districts, which could have a major impact on the state’s legislative and political makeup. Simply put, Maine hunters and gun owners have the power to stop this anti-hunting and anti-science agenda, but they need to act.

NRA members and Second Amendment supporters are urged to contact their local lawmakers NOW and request that they oppose any bill that restricts hunting and firearm rights in Maine. Click the TAKE ACTION button to contact lawmakers and do your part.
