Which handstops are those at 0:33?
Itโs a fad.
As a newer shooter to sbr's. I prefer the higher unity mount nut will try the 1.93 so I can use the 36 zero. My neck hurts cranking down and I dont prone & have no 300+battle rifle. Im all short engagement as I dont feel the need for long range. I dont hunt & really have no need for 500-800 yrd gun, although I have one, not my primary weapon. All are sub 10.5 9mm, 5.7 & 300blk.
2nd- no place to shoot here in middle TN for long guns. All ranges are clubs & full with waitlist. No place to shoot 50 yds or further & cant buy land in less than 5 acre groups due to taxes or rules or something.
6'5" with neck fusions.
Sometimes you just set up what works for you.
I grew up with over under scope mounts for deer so for short (200yds and under) dosen't matter. โค๐
whats the name of the foregrip model at @6:57
Scalarworks 2.26 with Eotech EXPS3 for night vision shooting and no A3 laser in my way.
1.7 is necessary for me cause im built like an anemic giraffe. Great video
Running a red dot on top of an lpvo is just slightly taller than the hydra mount. Just verified with reptilia. 2.94โ ๐ค๐ป
Just the video Iโve been waiting for ๐
10:37 Josh on Speedway? Interesting. ๐
where's the bore-sighted open bolt gun that uses mirrors like an old camera viewfinder? ๐คช
the way I do it, is to close your eyes, bring your rifle up and get a comfortable cheek weld, then open your eyes. this will tell you if you need to adjust your optic height or eye relief.
Lots of factors. I'd highlight these few to make a ballpark choice:
Use in small / medium sized buildings and grouped with others almost never going prone? +height
(Unless you're Austrian Jagdkommando, they love it ultra low)
If often going prone, your neck will curse you: -height
NV on helmet mount: ++ height
After what is done with it, it's your noggin that makes the difference. Where is your cheek bone, chin, where are your eyes? Everyone is a bit different.
It can work with lots of optics and heights but what is a natural fit for you on that rifle with chosen shoulder position?
Go get the measurements of the mounts to tube center / reticle to the rail top.
If you got some wood scraps lying around and a drill press, drill a small hole through a small block and have some shims or drill several holes and tape some off. Rougher alternative: Lego. Needs some blocky piece to look through. one can use double sided tape or the 'masking tape & superglue trick' found online. Which small hole comes straight to your eye after your mount is solid without looking slightly up/ down? Cheek connection? It takes some time but it is better than buying some 300$ mount or the optic and spending more money when it is just not right for you.
The smaller the hole the easier it is to narrow down the position. If you have a height adjustable rear aperture sight, use that instead and stick it on a shim if need be.
1.75- 2inches
running beryl with an eotech wtf is a witness?
Nobody's gonna say anything about the fact that Henry has gills! ๐ฎ 2:25 … WTH is going on here? Lol
What about an optic that sets as low as possible to the mount as possible with a para scope so you can hold your head higher without the higher height over bore?
I assumed lower 3rd cowitness was pretty standard. 100% complete co witness would be frustrating.
Great job finishing up with the concept of all of this is user preference and there are many variables to those preferences. I don't know how many times me and the guys have been out to the range and you get one or two people out there completely smashing their face to their stock and cracking their neck every few moments because they're shooting 300 yards using low mount rings and telling everybody else that they do it for accuracy. ๐
Most non-practical shooters will go for the latest fad regardless of real life usefulness. That is why now you see shooters sporting an LPVO with a 45 degree or top mounted red dot. I guess flipping the lever to 1x is now an inconvenience they didn't forsee when they decided to go with an LPVO.๐ my philosophy is that if in the event that you have to resort to your iron sights, there's minimum shift on cheek weld for sight acquisition. So you want to mount your optic or red dot as close as you can to the height of your iron sights.
Both 1.93 and 2.26 are a result of nods.. 1.93 works fine with a Nono or bi like 14โs.. but quads are massive.. the unity was designed specifically for the use of quads..
The idea of BUIS is a think of the past.. its just added weight.
Seen a comment about a guy with a2 front talking about absolute cos.. yeah thatโs a bitch and where the lower 1/3 came into play.. I myself prefer the lower 1/3 with an a2 front as one can wo a rear sight get consistent hits as the U post lines up perfectly in the bottom
And you can use it much like a really bad paralexed optic fairly well and easy..
I like my optics all uniform so Lower third with std tube is the way.. same cheek weld for both systems.. and for anyone thatโs been on a 2 way range.. your head is already the most exposed part of the body.. you donโt want it sticking up that much higher ๐ .
The only thing that goes higher is an eotech on a unity and thatโs for nod clearance.. some say well then why not do tune with micro piggyback.. and to them I say cause there is a reason everyone who has ever spend a lot of time under nods uses the techs.. window size window size window size.. you already are limited to 35% view.. you want that glass a big as possible.. easier to have multiple systems for different riles then one system for all roles.
A truck is always going to carry more then a car with a trailer and a sport car is always going to be faster and more nimble then a truck.. the right tools mater..
I obsessed for years about hight over bore on everything trying to have an exaggerated cheek weld from the MC and eventually started going higher and itโs honestly more comfortable especially in prolonged firing positions. Besides if you look at the numbers and how it effects POA/POI outside of CQB range. itโs a waste of time worrying about it. And now that I had a car wreck last year with a neck injury I have to run high anyways
When you measure height of optic above the receiver, how are you doing that? I know you're measuring to the center of the ocular lens, but from what starting point, the bottom of the rail slot or the top of the rail slot? I know it's not much of a difference, but it is a difference. With my current red dot (SIG Romeo 5 using their factory-supplied out of the box tall mount) I'm sitting at 1 9/16" (1.5625") as measured from the bottom of the rail slot to the center of the ocular lens. That puts me at near the top of tube-optic standard range and in the lower half of Lower 1/3rd co-witness range. I'm not comfortable with anything higher and I like a good cheek weld.
The school I was working for decided they wanted everyone to shoot heads up and with almost totally square stance to the target, which pretty much REQUIRES a change to a higher optic mount. Many of the guys went to these UNITY mounts that are the 2-2-6 height. You weren't forced to change your gear, but the style was impossible to shoot without it, and when you would lower your head to get the cheek weld, the harassment started. Performance on the range didn't matter; style was everything. Then you were told you couldn't work classes until you used the new style proficiently. I ended up quitting after 14 years over this, most of which I was a range master under the previous ownership. I get it, new ownership gets to do things the way they want, but why limit people to one style? They assured us that wouldn't happen. They accused the old owner and management of being dogmatic, but the new ones are just as bad in a different way.
can someone explain the movements at 3:09 ๐๐๐
Gun: Is made to have sights fairly high above the bore.
Guys 50 years later: hey, putting an optic fairly high above the bore actually works well for this gun!!!
