3000 plus rounds? My experience shooting 6.5/284 in NRA Match Rifle Division of Long Range demonstrates about a 500 round barrel life before the barrel will no longer deliver half minute performance at 1000 yards, which means fewer tie breaking X-Ring hits. Thus, with such a worn barrel, the High Master Shooter will be at a handicap to High Master Competitors having fresher barrels on the firing line. The point of all of this is barrel life is relative to target, distance, and shooter’s classification. All can take this to the bank. The United States Army Marksmanship Unit replaces their Service Rifle Competition barrels at 2500 rounds. Those worn barrels would not be recognized as being worn out by a typical Service Rifle Competitor for another 5000 rounds, meaning unless you’ve got mad skills like a USAMU Competitor you can shoot without any concern for barrel wear.
Barrels in basic training have way more than that thru their barrels and are rickety as hell, but can still shoot expert. Its crazy. The lowers are Vietnam era where the M16A1 and the Auto stamps are stamped over with A2 and Burst lmao

The caliber plays a small role. The cartridge makes a huge difference.
