Look, I know this light it loved..but it’s not because it’s the best. In fact I’d rate it very very far from being the best at anything.

(Currently sold out due to demand)
The average person doesn’t know what good is. It’s just well known.
Very well stated case as usual.
All these people commenting their subjective experience means nothing. This light is OBSOLETE dead news objectively sorry not sorry, throw it out or give to some toddler to play with as the joke it is
It’s good just overpriced kinda like snap on tools are
I've got a SL protac 1L-AA that I've had forever. It's a great flashlight, it's a crap edc flashlight. It's not necessarily too big, it's the shape and the finish. It eats pants. I've taken a metal file to it, it's just not comfortable to carry.
The thing with edc flash lights is their small, that’s the point, but I need all the lumens, I used to carry the stream light wedge and I got a coast px15r from Walmart as an edc challenge, not a bad light.
I’ve owned two of these and one of them worked great for years and the other one died the day after I bought it. Since then I’ve switched to the Loop Gear SK03 and couldn’t be happier.
I've had 3 of those lights over the last 4-5 years, I've yet to brake any but 2 got lost, one got found and it's been a handy little inspection light.
For 35 dollars it is not worth it in 2024. But I've had it for a couple of years as a lamp at work and I can say that it's been through hell and it's still working. I only bought a longer cable on AliExpress and I charge it at the end of every working week. If you were to ask me, the upgrade would be USB C, a more efficient LED bulb, a choice of light temperature and the ability to program low-high or high-low.
Maybe start your comparison with cutting you girly nails first!
Who gives a crap about the type of connection for the charging cord. Dumb.
Terrible clicker too hard to click
Greetings from Alabama! This was a nice evaluation of a product that needs updating. This product does, however, follow the KISS principle. Hence, it remains a classic. Best wishes on growing your channel.
everyone is entitled to their opinions I think Swiss army knives suck and aren't good for anything
Yes the z chargers are better
this flashlight is nearly perfect. one of the best edc lights ever made. used it for years. not everyone wants a super bright light, in fact that's often a negative when using as a work light or protecting night vision.
I have the Arora. That thing is crazy bright for a tiny light. Have it on my keys.
I've used and regularly carry both an Olight i3T and a RovyVon for about four years now. Both have held up well to my daily abuse. The i3T tail switch went bad so I contacted Olight about it. Gave them the serial number on the light and they sent me a new tail switch free of charge! They also followed up with emails inquiring if I received the part. Really great customer service for this day and age. I like the "plus" versions of i3T and i5T as well. I was thinking of getting a Streamlight but it'd probably stay in the box.
you can have an adapter from C to microusb and in fact you should have. There is still a surprising amount of electronics that use microusb
I think you are little hard on my friend here. I used to do automotive maintenance and repair. I've had this flashlight since 2017. I have carried it everyday since then (except a week that it rode around in a customers hot coolant bottle before I had the opportunity to magnet fish it out, it turned back on without even charging it) and this thing has never failed me. The battery is still good as of now. The button gets easier to use with constant daily use, you simply need to break it in. It is one of the best I've ever owned. I have several of these charging cables laying around. Same thing you charge a PS4 controller with. I still use that controller to play PC games. Not everyone goes directly out and buys the newest things available. Sometimes dependability is better than new features.
Great video. I've had the microstream usb for many years now. Since then, I've bought countless "better" lights… yet this is the one that always makes it into my pocket. Used and abused it and it has never let me down. The pocket clip has never come off. I've put it through the wash by accident and still works. The size is perfect for my pocket and love the coyote tan color.
I would love a newer model to come out with the same slim form factor that has more settings and better button that can take multiple battery types. I might finally try the i3T.
I still love this coyote brown version of that streamlight. I've always been a fan of It's switch because I have a strong enough grip not to have issues clicking it on when I want to, but I don't have to be extra careful when I want the light to turn off as soon as I take pressure off the button. The tail switch is like the best of both worlds for someone like me. If they upgraded the charging port and waterproof rating while keeping everything else the same, they would be making a near perfect EDC pocket flashlight for someone like me. I don't even care all that much about the lumen/candela output as it stands, but if they did upgrade it to be a little brighter, I certainly wouldn't complain.
The micro usb is what stopped me from getting one, I pretty much won’t buy anything if it isn’t usb C
I think you must have a bad button. I have 3 of these and the buttons on all of them easy to push. For what the light is and does, it works for me. If I need more power (lumens) it’s perfect for the price.
I was ablut to buy this last December, but then the new Pokelit AA gray 1k lumen came out..I love that thing. Small compack size and 1K lumen is so useful. I ended up buying one for my 4 kids and wife as stocking stuffers.
I hope Acebeam comes out with a model that has more throw and also more colors.
Really didn’t know which one to get. Just ordered the RovyVon a3
Been using mine for the last year or so, doesn't stay charged to awful long for one, an two the slide out cap for the charge port came all the way off so I have to have it taped now an remove that every time I charge it. . 😢
I have the little tiny 300 lumen olight, love it! Simple, super small, and it just works!
Please let the micro usb rest in peace…
I have bought three Streamlight microstreams now. I have a habit of losing them and love the light and so I just buy another one. Actually, my wife found one in the dryer the other day and it still works so I told her to keep it in her purse. I LOVE that the tail button is harder to push…let me explain. I own two OLight i3 AAA powered lights now and the tail button is much too soft, broken clips and tail button intermittent failures. I clip carry in my front left pocket and the button sometimes gets bumped and turns on without me knowing and then when I need to use it the battery is dead. I buy the Streamlight for two reasons…the button takes more effort to press so that it won't turn on unless I want it to…also, I absolutely am turned off by a light that has modes. I don't need a light that has several modes and blinking and whatever. I just want it to turn on and then off. The Streamlight has about 45 lumens (I think it is) and is perfect for everyday use. If I need more light power, then I will go get a bigger flashlight. I don't need a rechargeable light either. AAA batteries are easy to come by and for my EDC it just works. I honestly could care less about the waterproof rating as well. Here's a thought…don't put your light under water lol. If you do, then buy another one and don't do it again. Just my two cents.
I've owned this exact model from Streamlight for a few years now, and I think it's awesome. It does what I need it to do.
How does it compare, in your opinion, to the Pokelit AA? I have many of those but no Streamlights. I like the Pokelit because it's just a little bit bigger than AAA lights but higher current and more runtime. I have modded some with FET drivers and they put out around 1000 lumens max with High CRI and NW CCT. I also have i3T and i3T2 and I like them both, but I really like NW High CRI so I carry the Pokelit most days.
That clip was the downfall for me, I had it hop out of my pocket multiple times and I finally lost it on a trip last summer. Upgraded to a cloud MCH and I haven’t looked back
Get the AAA version. You can get a higher voltage rechargeable AAA battery with a USBC built into and it's twice as bright
Mine uses a triple a battery, but I've had it for 7 years. I'll upgrade once it dies on me.
Loved streamlights forever… they rock
I’d appreciate your feedback on the i5t and the i5R separately as well as in comparison to the i3t.
Excellent review.
Interestingly the old Streamlight MicroStream 45lm apparently can run a 10440 also! Don’t know the output though.
So pleased you gave well deserved mention to the venerable 1L-1AA! Amazing light that remains very hard to beat for a dozen reasons.
I’m surprised that the one thing about the microstream that would be your least complaint is the output. For me that is actually perhaps my main complaint. I don’t really care about the old micro USB. I think most of us have several of those chargers laying around anyway.
The IP rating is definitely poor.
Good to know the Olight can run a 10440. Will it still work on low mode?
totally agree on the micro usb, it's 2024!
I would say micro-USB is an inconvenience, but it is still widely used as it seems to be cheaper to implement than USB-C… or this flashlight may just be an older design. A similar flashlight but one that uses USB-C is made by Thrunite (the Archer mini); the Archer pro also has the same design but is more powerful. Both of these Thrunite Archers have an IPX-8 (2M) rating.
You are totally right I bought one because of the reviews and was so disappointed. I think it is a horrible flashlight and you were to kind. The button is horrible and out put is pathetic. Great video man.
Having owned several of these Streamlights over the years. Currently having 2 in my possession. I love these flashlights, for the price. I don't have any trouble with them for there intended purpose. I keep one on my multitool pouch and one in my SUV. They are intended for quick use when I need some light. I have never had a issue of a button being too difficult to press, especially compared to some other lights, like Maglite. I have never had an issue with the waterproof rating, not for regular everyday task or quick repairs outside. I'm not using for hiking or search and rescue, where it's in the rain for hours and possible drops in a puddle. I look at all kinds of flashlights. 200 to 400 lumens is ideal for 90% of tasks, having only a high and low setting is ideal for 90% of tasks. Why is it, however, that 90% of lights i come across have all kinds of brightness settings? Making it difficult to get to the setting you want. The only thing in my mind that would make them better, is longer battery life, so I don't have to charge them as often.
I've yet to find another flashlight that is as versatile, easy to use, size, and great price point as this flashlight.
