A manhunt remains in effect in Kentucky for a man suspected in the weekend shooting of nine vehicles and wounding of five people on a busy interstate.

Joseph A. Couch, 32, was named a suspect in Saturday’s shootings on I-75 after authorities recovered his SUV on a service road near the crime scene. Authorities later found a semi-automatic weapon nearby that they believe was used in the shooting, said Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, a spokesperson for the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office. He added that dozens of local, state and federal law enforcement officers are involved in the search. Meantime, Laurel County Sheriff John Root said Sunday night that the AR-15 rifle used in the shootings was purchased legally on the day of the attack.

The search was focused on a remote area north of London, a community of about 8,000 people, roughly 75 miles (120 kilometers) south of Lexington. Laurel County, Kentucky schools are closed Monday out of an abundance of caution.

  1. Something is really off in these "news". Someone is lying and lying bad – they say that dude threatened the neighbor with his AR-15 a month ago, but he bought it only a few days ago. They say he had terrorist threats – and no proof. I guess he just dug out a lot of dirt on someone important in Kentucky and they decided to burry the dude.

  2. This is a direct reault of our veterans who suffering from PSTD and then Guns Guns Guns for sale here in KY on every street corner. Nobody wants to take this seriously. This is so sad. Ugh. Im bipolar but im treated for it. Our veterans are not being treated. Hes trained he knows what hes doing. Hes having some kind of psycotic break. SMH this is why my ass stays in the house for most part.

  3. And the other suspect was driving the Newer model White Grand Marquis Clean white and make up on and he waved at me ..what does the teenage boy look like? Because this person appeared to be Hispanic and he had a shorter nose like the penguin from the comic book character…

  4. That's why Maruas car was black and white in one of the scene photos and turned in the opposite direction" because when he turned his interior light on it was black and white on the inside like a wicked molten white " in that day"… not the royal domain white of the Christ…

  5. Are we supposed to be afraid of the Arma-Lite Model 15? AR-15?
It seems like you want us to be more afraid of the stick.. than the hand that wields it..
Because the model rifle doesn't truly matter. A mini-14 is the same as an AR-15.
And AR-10 shoots an ever more deadly bullet

  6. I wonder how they have the picture of the guy. Someone must have known who to look for. This looks too convenient. Just happens to be the same gun and same type of guy as that assassination attempt. … Right at Election Time. Sure yeah right.

  7. Just because law enforcement "works real hard" and drive 130 mph,😊… doesn't mean it's the best way to effectively police. My motorist experience in 50 years is probably 2% apprehension rate using 911 dispatch on traveling reckless calls. And the bottle neck is in assigning. the "preferred" jurisdiction.

Current 911 operations seem antiquated for the times. And the most IN-effective means and approach for apprehending a moving suspect. With so many agencies and jurisdictions, it's common to be transferred to several dispatch centers, repeating descriptions, locations, directions of travel and vehicle markings. Next county, repeat. Highway Patrol, repeat again. Shift change. No units available. We'll call you. Return to initial location for complaint etc etc. All while trying to navigate safely on the roadway.

Just an idea. 911 calls should go straight to the boots on the ground, hands free of course, for IMMEDIATE screening and response. Most all officers are deputized, so anyone can take a 911 call. (no getting out of it) This will help improve apprehensions success. No time, information lost by multiple transfers or missing and misconstrued information.

If time is critical to life, we're certainly losing a lot critical time, passing the buck from agency to agency.

  8. So he was charged with making terrorist threats before and ordered not to contact the victim, but charges were dismissed. Were tracking dogs not used, since he's supposedly on foot and they found where he'd shot from?

  9. He gets to the actual info at 3:00. (A shooter on a ridge shot 5 people who have all survived, off exit 49 on I-75 in KY. The police didn't send officers into the woods to find him in the dark due to the danger but left snipers there and got heat detecting drones and choppers, and the shooter is at large. I'm 22+ mins in and they've not given his name other than Nolan.) Articles refer to the man's name as Joseph Couch elsewhere though.
