  1. The breacher stands to the side because he's less likely to be shot if he's not in the doorway and he won't be in the way when #1 enters the room.
They hold the gun upside down because it gives more control when standing off to the side.

  2. Probably so they could pull the trigger with their index finger instead of blowing their thumb off, which could be the case since the thumb usually helps absorb a most of the recoil

  3. Standing off to the side likely has nothing to do with avoiding getting hit by shrapnel. If I had to guess, it's entirely so that the bad guy who's inside the room doesn't shoot through the door and hit you.

  4. I've seen a lot of these comments but I don't think anyone thought it was to take your body out of the line of fire after that first shot you should expect shots to come from the otherside idk about you but a 7.62 doesn't sound like a good time

  5. It's because it's the most comfortable way to hold and fire the gun from that position for that individual soldier. Everyone has different preferences, hand sizes, arm lengths, and body types. Because of that, the way we hold certain things, varies.

  6. The only reason I ever breached with my M4 or MCS upside down was because the hinges were on the right side of the door in certain countries. It was so that we were not standing in front of the door that's going to get lit up as soon as you blew the first hinge. They don't expect you to be standing to the right of the door when the hinge is on the left. There's other reasons, but that's the only one we cared about. It was a dirty job, but it had to be done, and it had to be quickly with as little casualties as possible.
