I made this using a YHM style barrel nut turned down for a press fit, a 3D printed clamp, and this carbon tube: (5287T25)

I hope this works for airsoft
Great job bud… The company I purchased my Carbon Fiber Upper discontinued them and I wanted to build a pistol version of my rifle. Unfortunately finding a similar handguard is very tough. I'm about to order an octagonal tube and do all the mlok holes myself with a dremel. I've worked CF before, but finding a barrel nut that will accept this octagon shape is going to be tough as shit
Would you make a clamp and barrel nut for me? Cost?
What was the od size if you don't mind sharing
Great project! Thanks also for the McMaster Carr item number!
Can you post up the stl for that nifty clamp?
I bought this type of tube in a 7 inch tube. I bought it to go over a 5 Inch barrel with the KAK industries 2.25 inch flash can. Will it work?
I am building one in a 5" pistol barrel length. I can only find the tube in 4 In or 9 in tubes. Could I buy the 9in tube and cut it down to about 6.5 in to cover the Gas block and flash can?
Where can I buy the tube
you could just wrap epoxied fiberglass on a mandrel for fraction of that price.
I'd like to see black ABS pipe used (won't shatter like PVC which usually grey or white)
So…its cheap…BUT.
Buy a 3d printer & a lathe.
(Easy $3000 , no problem) LOL.
If you were selling these for $100 you would have buyers
NIce !!! Is there a place i can find the clamp you used ?
Sure ain't thinken about the heat there brother
YOU SIR… HAVE SHOWN ME EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED TO SEE IN THE 1ST VIDEO I'VE EVER WATCHED ON THE SUBJECT… In your opinion, what mm should the ideal thickness be for a build that's something like you just showed in your video? You're the best!
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!
if you have the ability to mill out keymod slots in a carbon fiber tube, why did you make those slots with a damn hacksaw?
Update with full build specs and weight?
Does anyone make a barrel nut is the same diameter or smaller than the tube?
What 3d printer do you recommend for a beginner?
Love the DIY stuff. For anyone else looking to build a lightweight AR, check out the AR15 Parts Weights Database (just google it). It's a shared Google Sheet with thousands of AR parts, listed by weight. Over 1400 rails/handguards alone. Pretty extensive.
Could you make one for a sig 716 ?
cool stuff man, I am looking to do a feather weight build myself and this seems a lot better option than buying a $300 rail or China-men "carbon fiber" "keymod" handguard from eBay that is probably all kinds of fucked up. Thanks for sharing.
dude!!! sick. get on the internet and sell these.
This guy make really nice stocks out of carbon fiber and a bunch of other stuff in-case your friend is interested. http://www.smokecomposites.com/
I have that barrel. It shoots well.
You sir, are a freaking genius!!! Seriously awesome!
Dude thanks for the videos. I really enjoy your explanations and examples. Keep them coming.
Btw, you should 3d print or machine a clamp with a built-in rail section where the screws are, that would allow mounting a bipod when you want without adding to the weight when you dont. Even if it is pretty far back, the lightweight barrel I figure should help make that work.
Feel you on the astigmatism, I found the magnified ones work perfectly for me while the 1x ones are just a fuzzy red cloud. Had a truglo el-cheapo 2x and it was perfectly focused. Upgraded to a 3x from Burris and that's even better, nothing short of amazing. The only thing you give up due to magnification is the cowitness, but with a qd rail mount on the red dot it's not an issue.
I think you just made my mind up on what I'll be doing for my dolos pistol build. I think I'll try and do what you done here, or at least very similarly. The dolos gen 2 works with yhm barrel nuts so I think I'll be set. thanks for the video.
The front sight goes on the barrel, solving a few problems for the floating guard.
How does it hold up to the heat?
You are my fucking hero.
