Review of the KE Arms WWSD 16″ AR-15 Rifle

The AR-15 has evolved to become a bit of a design departure from its inception. KE Arms wanted to bring the platform back to its original design philosophy by Eugene Stoner, utilizing modern materials to build a simple, accurate, reliable, and lightweight rifle. I was fortunate enough to receive a sample of their 16″ What Would Stoner Do rifle to try out for myself (note: I have no affiliation with KE Arms and do not receive any other benefit for this review). I immediately put this rifle to the test in @InrangeTv’s High Desert Brutality competition and on many range trips since. In this video, I detail the features that make this rifle unique, the modifications and additions I have made, and my experience shooting with it. Enjoy!

Note on the KP-15 and triggers – there is more options for configuration here than I had understood at the time of filming. See the breakdown here:

  1. I love my KP15 (not quite WWSD, lower doesnt have all the bells and whistles) glad to hear you had an overall positive experience with it as well. Its my go-to innawoods hiking gun now, and every friend i get to shoot it loves it.

  2. great video! love your content and seeing a fellow trans woman in the gun space!

was wondering if you'll ever do a video about putting together a kit like helmet, plate carrier, knee pads, gloves, camo shirt and pants? not really sure where to start with that stuff but I'd love to try it with help from a general guide by you

  3. I was concerned about the grip angle but you make a good point about the longer barrel length. I think I'll go with the receiver and build out from there for my needs but keep up the great work and thanks for sharing your perspective on it.

  4. Making an assumption but if your dry-fire is an example of your live-fire technique, if precision shooting is really your goal then you might want to shoot pulling the trigger with the pad/tip of your finger

  5. My major unfixable complaint of the KE lower is the pistol grip – just not quite the right angle for me. Major plus is the safety, that can be engaged even if the rifle isn't loaded (IMO, Stoner's major design failure). If I wanted to use it as a "battle rifle" (I don't), I would want a heavier barrel, especially if I wanted to use a suppressor.

Mine has a red dot with a foldable magnifier; strictly a range/gamer gun, and I love it. The only mod I MIGHT make would be a light weight 20" barrel.

  6. I love my WWSD rifle. Built it from a stripped lower with KE’s parts kit and trigger pack, skipping the gucci captured recoil setup for a more milspec recoil spring and buffer. Upper setup is an Aero smooth side with Faxon 14.5 pencil barrel with the integrated muzzle device, Faxon’s CF handguard, their nitride BCG because I’ve had good luck with them. Add LPVO, light and sling and it’s all good.

The only thing I would do differently if I started making it today with what I know now is I would have used a 16” pencil barrel with the separate muzzle device. The integrated flash hider kinda sucks at its job. But to get an overall weight of 7 pounds with a 1-8 LPVO and offset red dot is pretty cool. My “main” AR weighs that with a dot, MBUS irons, light and sling.

  7. My SPR upper sits over a KP15 with a drop in PSA trigger and a 45° selector that's now permanently installed, because I'm a goober and didn't realize you needed a proprietary selector switch 😅

Running a 20" HBAR and a Primary Arms SLX 4-16×44 in HUD DMR reticle, everything else is as absolutely lightweight as possible. Even the dot. Fully loaded, with sling, it weighs in at just under 10 lbs.

It's more well balanced than my 16" midlength build, shoots much better, and handles almost as well.

KE Arms makes a fantastic product. I cant recommend them enough.

  8. It probably wouldn't be too hard to make up some LoP spacers for KE lowers. 3d print or cut out of light stock of some sort and just use longer screws…may warrant some experimentation on the 2 I have 🙂 Thanks for the cool video/vibe

  9. Most of the PRS shooters I know tend to go for the CAL bipods from atlas because the pan on the psr cannot be fully locked out to their satisfaction. Have you noticed this as an issue with the psr? Do you like/ever user the pan feature?

  10. You can run standard non-cassette style triggers in a KP15. I have a LaRue MBT two-stage in mind and it works great.
I also had a problem with the original ambi meg catch, swapped it out for a standard one and it's been great since.

  11. Really enjoyed the intro! Enjoyed the review as well. The KE Arms WWSD rifle is one I have been very interested in for awhile, so your review was well timed for me! I'm also interested in a longer range AR … but I think i'll go for a different calibre myself. Still, I very much appreciate the thoughts behind the WWSD rifle. You have a great channel, looking forward to your future content!
