How short is too short for a .308 barrel?

While still effective, there's plenty of other calibers that makes sense and better suited. 12.5 barrel 123gr 6.5 Grendel and 147/150gr 308 about 2300fps, about 1450ft/lbs vs 1760ft/lbs. But the better 6.5 coefficient at range, smaller, lighter, less recoil, less muzzle blast.

Say you have a 12 inch barrel with a 4 inch suppressor. Does the added length from the can act as additional barrel length?

I plan to shorten one of my 308 GII rifles to have threads just in front of the gas block, so that it will accept a suppressor, for various purposes.

I prefer at least an 18" barrel for 308, under most circumstances.

If you have a 16" or 18" 308 for longer range, the 12" def makes sense for CQB. Lets face it, if you buy this, or even watch these videos, you have or will have multiple rifles. There's no do-it-all one gun, nor will you have one gun anyway.

An AR10 in 308 is a dumb idea no matter what length the barrel. Grendel smokes it at long range in a rifle that weighs half as much.

My 8.5 in ptr91 begs to be included.

Don’t forget the MC51, a G3 with a 9.1” barrel. Looks kind of like a knock off MP5, and virtually the same size, but will happily destroy any body armour a terrorist has invested in. Muzzle blast is tremendous though especially on full auto. Never fired one myself but have seen it demonstrated.

20” barrel for my A-10 because taking chances are not an option.
