  1. Just bought a Savage 220 slug gun. Have not fired it. The bolt does not cycle smoothly. I had some CLR at home, so I used that to lubricate the bolt and inside the gun where the bolt cycles. That made a big difference, but the bolt still doesn't cycle well. It seems to stick a little unless I forcefully move the bolt. Did anyone else have this issue? What product do you use for lubrication? Does the bolt movement get better as it is used more?

  2. I was shooting 3 inch groups with my Mossberg 500 shooting 2&3/4 or 3 inch magnum one ounce sabots. I never tried any of the 250 sabots in it. I had a Simmons pro diamond Turkey scope on it, and it had a 24-inch rifled barrel with a cantilever scope mount. I used it for 30 years until they opened up our state to high powers. I would often carry two guns with me, my shotgun and my muzzle loader, because I've taken deer at 215, 205, 193 and 173 yards with the muzzle loader.

  3. I was skeptical about ever buying a 20 gauge but I run the Savage 220 with the Nikon Slugmaster scope BDC and shoot only 3" Remington Accutips and this combination has been absolutely devastating on deer out to 200M. Who cares about recoil if you don't have a vagina. I use this over .308 when I am shooting inside 250M. Only complaint i got is the deafening roar of a shot. The noise doesn't bother me but if you in a place you shouldn't technically be than this will certainly draw attention within a mile….. Thats why there is the .22 Mag but that another conversation…

  4. Don't know what world of magical ballistics this is from, but the Savage 12g shoots flatter than the Savage 20g. Yes, the 20g is a nice gun. Lighter and less recoil. But the 12g has a flatter trajectory. Period.

  5. Has Savage fixed the jamming problem in these guns? I live in shotgun only zone and know many guys including myself who dumped that gun do to frustrating consistent cartridge jams.

  6. Ive found Bushnell to be sloppy made compared to pretty much all their competitors. Not saying they dont work and all are junk or anything, but they need to step it up. Just tried to give them another chance recently, but the reticle has specs in the lines on a shotgun scope.I will still use it as it wont affect as long as holds zero. Its meant for shorter ranges anyway. Ive seen some with the center circle reticle where the line inside the circle doesnt match with the ones on outside of circle and is off set, and Ive seen them with reticle lines that do not stay same width throughout reticle and taper. I also had another Bushnell that the side turret rotated out of the side of the tube. Ive never had this stuff happen with any other brand.

  7. I have a Remington 870 in 12 gauge with a cantilever barrel it shoots good but I've been debating on getting a savage 220. I've heard they are extremely accurate but I really don't shoot deer long range most of the time their 20-75 yds away maybe 100 yds max . Is it worth it buying a savage 220 when I don't need a long range slug gun.
