  1. Hey Matt, love your videos! Quick suggestion for you: Make a video summary of best body/lens combinations for D series pro bodies say going back to D3. Currently the D series pro bodies are dirt cheap on ebay, I just picked up mint D5, but the information about "best gear for them" is distributed among multiple video reviews. While it is easy to say latest greatest is the best, i am pretty sure my nikon 105 f/1.4 or zeiss milvus 85mm f/1.4 are probably overkill for 20MP D5 and even more so for older 12 and 16MP D3 and D4; even though they shine on my 36MP D800. It actually feels like the nikon trinity of f/2.8 zooms is all that D5 needs, even though original 24-70 f/2.8 i find lacking on d800; while gems like 105 f/1.4 or milvuses are really for higher MP, slower, more deliberate bodies like d800. At the same time perhaps 300mm f/2.8 and 600mm/f/4 probably would fare better on D5 due to larger pixels and closer to 1/FL shutter speed rule vs say 1/(3*FL) i tend to find works better on D800. I am not pretending to know what i am talking about, but i think a "gear match up summary video" of this type would be helpful for the community.

  2. Nice comparison. But you numbered the lenses instead of telling us which was which – good idea – and then didn't clearly show a list of which lenses are which number! Please add it in the description if you don't mind πŸ™‚

  3. Thanks so much for this, Matt! I love – especially since my photoshoots have been so few and far between these past 2 1/2 years – how you manage to really get the feeling of a photoshoot into these videos, while also providing great info. My bank account is less fond of you, hehe, cause I now have two used 50mm Nikkors on the way: an S.C f/1.4 from 1974 coming straight from Japan ($45 in near perfect condition! so excited!) and the Z f/1.8 S (my first Nikon Z lens)! πŸ˜„

  4. I got the 50 mm 1.8 G and I'm super happy with it! Being a student I'm always trying to look for bargains so with it being almost half the price of the Z mount version it was a clear choice for me πŸ™‚
Also the outro was very cute xD

  5. These are all nice lenses but they severely lack in tonality and micro contrast. If we're talking best of the best, as far as 50mm focal length goes, then we're talking; Zeiss Biotar 58mm f2, Zeiss Planar 50mm f1.4 (the old one), Zeiss Otus 55mm f1.4, Voigtlander 58mm f1.4 Nokton, Voigtlander 58mm f1.2 Nokton, Leica Summarit 50 f1.5, Leica Summicron M 50mm f2, Leica Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4, Nikkor 58mm f1.2 Noct, Nikkor 50mm f2 and 55mm f1.2 AIS lenses, Nikkor 58mm f1.4G and last but not least, the Rokinon 55mm f1.4. These lenses are just pure tonality, micro contrast and ''3D pop'' goodness… Simply perfect.

  6. Great review, as always, Matt! Question for you: does the FTZ2 offer any image improvements over the original FTZ? I have a Z7ii, FTZ, and 50mm 1.4. Would it be worth it for me to upgrade to the FTZ2? Thanks in advance!

  7. I bought the 50 1.8 S, it is great, but since I bought the 40mm f2, I rarely use the 50mm. The 40 is a little wider, which is better for environmental portraits. It has a very pleasant rendering and it is so lightweight. I wonder if I should sell the 50

  8. Hi Matt I'm thinking about 50mm 1.2 s vs my 105mm 1.4 .which is better…I shoot portraits (favor 70 200mm 2.8 s) if u had to choose one which would u choose πŸ€” (might be a good video) thanks for any input πŸ™πŸ½
